  • UK Regional Editions (UK RE)

I've been looking at trying some of the older UK RE's. I've tried the LFdC Short Robusto and the ERdM Choix De L'Epoque but I know very little or nothing, short of looking on Cgars or JJ Foxes websites, about the others...

What's worth seeking out and trying? Are any truly worth grabbing a box of?

    Would welcome all views...

I'd heartily recommend the LGC Gloriosos: grab some (not sure how much they're going for now, but I'd say grab a box if you can). A remarkable cigar - it feels brilliant in the hand, smokes like a dream, and tastes delicious. Nice flavour development: it's on the sweeter, more gentle side, but develops some nice depth as it progresses. Not a powerhouse, but complex and enjoyable.

As I'm feeling a little lazy this evening, here's the review I wrote about the Gloriosos when I was in Cardiff herfing with Dave a while back. I've had a few more of these since, and they've been very consistent.

A 'sleeper' Simon. And LGC do have a reputation for 'ageing' extremely well.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

I found the LGC Gloriosos very average to be honest! Maybe I should keep a couple for a year or two. The standard production LGC Tanios (as said in a different thread) are great though.

Id say that over the years the UK market has had some lovely RE i just love the LFDC right now lovely little cigar
Also if you can find them the RA Belicoso RE 2005 is a wonderfull cigar, another i like is the Juan Lopez Seleccion Suprema 2009 still plenty out there to be had.
This thread has got me thinking about all the the other UK RE and the one that has eluded me of them all is the Por Larranaga Magnificos id love to try it some day but im led to believe the 07 boxes are much superior to the 08 anybody shed any light on this? any one smoked one?

            Punch serie d'oro no.1

Can even get 50 in a beautiful humidor. The number of times I've had to refrain from pulling the trigger on that!

Had a Por Larra?aga Regalias de Londres last evening and thought this might be the place to mention that it was by far the most disappointing Cuban cigar I have smoked in many a year.

I used to like the marca back when I was only smoking Cuban cigars as a special treat; before I'd developed a taste for cigars with a bit more 'oomph'. Mild, nice flavour, beautifuully made.
Not this one. It looked fine but smoked like a dog-rocket.

Had quite a struggle to even get it lit- from the voids in the ash (black with poorly burned filler) it looks like the roller filled the foot of the cigar with stems and bits. I never could get it to burn straight.
Almost devoid of flavour with no finish to speak of. It got stronger (well, harsher) as it burned down but I finally chucked it with more than a couple of inches left.
I was reluctant to give up on this smoke, not only because at ?25, it was one of the most expensive cigars I've bought lately.

This could have been a 'dud' in an otherwise decent box. I would be interested in giving these another chance but not at those prices.

I've smoked half a dozen of the Gloriosos and I agree with this. Gorgeous cigars, in a beautiful numbered varnished box. I get flavors of honey and lemon peel. Smooth and perfectly constructed. I generally smoke thinner ring gauge cigars but these are something special. Just ordered some more.

I have just ordered some a part of my continuing education on Cuban cigars, looking forward to them arriving.
