  • Most disapointing Cigar Ive ever had

So yesterday was my birthday and I was gifted a Siglo3 tubo. It was bought in a reliable retailer in outer London. Really looking forward to it as ive never had a siglo before.

It looked good, but from the first puff I knew there was something wrong. The whole thing tasted exactly like the cheapest dutch tourist cigars. I mean I would rather smoke a henri wintermans or a hamlet or a cigarette than this thing. It was an absolute dog. I struggled trough because the person who gifted it was there with me. If anything it got worse. I had to toss it after half way as my mouth felt abused.

Who else has been let down this badly by a smoke?

This reminds me of an HdM Petit Robusto that I had. It was a smoke that I enjoyed several times when first getting into cigars but the last one I had was terrible. It had been stored at 65% and had been dry boxed for a day but it still refused to light properly, requiring constant corrections, not what you want given the size of the stick. When it was lit the smoke production was very poor and the flavour was hovering somewhere around wallpaper paste and cardboard. I've not been able to look at another one since.

Interesting. Cohiba Siglo IV (tubo) was just about the best cigar I have every smoked so this does raise an interesting question...

Just because a cigar is in a tube you can't know that it is perfectly humidified. There has been much chat here over the years about whether it's better to keep tubed cigars in your humidor with the caps on or off.

However while tubes can be assumed to keep cigars in a reasonable condition for a while I don't think tubes are designed to be mobile humidors so if they are not kept in humid conditions this might explain why your Siglo III was below par.

RyJ no.2 I had was terrible, burnt my throat out and tasted of charcoal.

Funny that we're all complaining about cubans here, are they known for being inconsistent?

I've had two of those. The first one was gorgeous. The second was tasteless just like you say. Weird....

Yes. Especially ones from around 2000.

I had a really bad Monte sublime LE 2008. Just would not light properly and made me feel sick as a dog. I know this is a one off as this has a reputation as an amazing smoke.

I agree with that my mate sent me a acid sampler tasted like crap only then i realised they where flavoured cigars

You know they are bad when you forget you ever had them and stupidly order some more to "try for the first time"

Interesting to hear about a bad Cohiba, given the usual hype and the premium price one pays for the privilege of smoking them.
I also had a bad experience with a Siglo-a Silgo I tubo- that was a gift during my last visit to el Laguito. I was chortling over managing to pick up two of the beauties by distracting the staff who were handing them out at the door.
                        I shouldn't have bothered.
The epitome of 'dog rocket'. Just really bad cigars. I'm glad I didn't pay for these.

But by far the most 'disappointing' cigar of the past few years was a (non-Cuban) Camacho.
Now I like the regular 'Camacho Havana" (sic) robustos and have a box that has yielded some tasty smokes so I took a chance on the very black oscuro version when it was released.
                        Bad move.
The black colour was not from a maduro wrapper, it was from a dyed wrapper and the black dye came off all over my lips. Yech!
When I reviewed this travesty on another (US) forum, a rep from Camacho saw my post and offered to send me a box to make up for my disappointment. (Read: buy my silence.) I told him that Canada would not likely let cigars cross the border but he tried and Canada Customs made the courier return the smokes. Good thing they did, because I wouldn't GIVE those suckers away, let alone smoke another one

I puffed on a Cohiba Robust last night. It was one of two left in my hummi from a 2001 box. I think I'll leave the other well alone, doesn't say much about the other😝

I think with NC's you are never expecting as good a smoke as a CC. So when you have a bad CC it is more memorable in the long run.

I think a lot of it has to do with a let down in expectation. A duff Quintero Panatelas doesn't faze too much but a CO66 tasteing like Polycell does. I've had a few disappointments, a Upmann Half Corona which tasted as I imagine slurried paper pulp might taste like was bad, but it was cheap. A Trinni Robusto T which wasn't so cheap and tasted like the dregs of a soap dispenser in a back street garage.

I kind of agree with what Pands has said above. With CC because I know very little about them I have no real expectation one way or another. If it's good that's great, and if it's bad I blame it entirely on the vitola rather than the erring cigar and never go there again.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
