St. George's distillery 25mins up the road from me...I've been on the tours..done the samplings, waited for aged...& despite reading dozens of favourable reviews..I still think it's not up to much at all..All marketing & no substance...
Good call on the Meths..don't let aggressive selling sway you...

lol, no worries dave!!! i didn't realise you had an action plan here..... actually, i could be doing with some guidance for scotch outside of islay!! other than the 'laddie bottles i still have in my drinks cabinet (laddie 10, barley 2004 & 2006, an turas mor, pc7 & 8, organic), the only other scotch whiskies i have are ardbeg uigeadail, jura superstition, dalmore gran reserva, glenlivet 12 year old, auchentoshen 3 wood!!!

looking forward to where you're gonna take us mate,

Great thread! There really is a HUGE variety when it comes to whisky. The best thing I ever do is have a selection to compare while out at the bars, side by side. Of course this helps when drinking with other whisky drinkers; doesn't look as crazy as hoarding 3-4 drinks... I went on a mini off-season tour in the Highlands last year and highly recommend it if you have the time. Caledonian sleeper train and you're there no problem! Stunning scenery.
