    Cigar smokers are generous folk!

There was an excellent cigar event at JJ Fox last night. A full house of 75 people - Partagas D4 and Oliva Serie V. The Fishing for Heroes charity organised a raffle and silent auction - raising well in excess of ?5,000.

Smoking cigars, drinking and doing some good - yep - a great night.

Fishing for Heroes is a registered charity (1135355) which was founded in 2009. We are a nationwide charity based in Derby with the aim of helping forces personnel who are suffering from emotional issues after the horrors of active service.
I'm sure there are greater things in life than a fine cigar ........... but right now I can't think what they might be.

Excellent news! Get some info on the forum in future so some of us can attend!

I agree with Deano - the first the wider Cigar community have heard of this is probably your post! I'm sure a lot of members would have attended the event (if there was room for us!)

        Yes fair comment Steve.

I have to say yesterday was my first day back here after a year or so away (not on another site). This was actually a private Event - I was invited to talk about the cigars. I will always let everyone know about industry Events I hear of........ How about the JJ Fox St. Patricks Event - next Thursday.

I hadn't herad of this charity previously. I have Pike fished for Help for Heros but htis is a totally different charity. I have checked out their website & liked their Facebook page (only 400 or so on there so far, sure we can increase that). The idea of combining fishing & cigars & calling it a charity is inspired (though I guess the cigars part is a one off fund raiser?)
As a life long fisherman I can appreciate how fly fishing would help these ex-service personnel, as they are constantly doing something rather than sitting down watching the rods all day waiting for a bite, like some other forms of fishing which can give you too much time to think.

Perhaps it could widen it's appeal by including lure fishing for pike & other fish, as it's more accesaible & would be cheaper for them to carry on with after their intial instruction.

I think I will chose Fishing for Heroes as my charity this year when I hold my cigar raffle in June.

Yes - it comes up in the bottom left hand corner of the Home Page.

JJF from a good Irish heritage, opposite Trinity College Dublin, I am thinking it will be a great night

There is some cheap fly fishing on the Wye. Maybe worth having a look?
