Suited Herf

Hi there chaps,

I mentioned this on the Watford herf feedback this morning. You see what Marc has started wearing his tweeds to the herf?!! I suggested that it might be a nice idea to have a suited herf. There seems to be some initial interest, so I have created this thread to try and gauge how much interest there would be for such an event, and invite suggestions for dates / location and format etc. I'll leave the thread to gather a bit of steam and come back to you all with some suggestions. The only way this might work is if you booked a top quality venue that allowed smoking. At a pub venue the botl like to feel relaxed and feel comfortable but great to see smart casual.
Besides its often difficult to get numbers.
Keep the ideas coming tho.
How about one of the major Cigar distributors put on a black tie dinner auction in a marquee come late summer ?

I'm interested. I'm the same, don't own tweed but I can rustle up a suit or even black tie!

Doesn't have to be a tweed suit. I like the black tie idea, and I think it may be worth asking some of the members who work in the industry if such an event would be feasible. Other venues that may work are the Hotel du Vin hotels.

Could be done at my golf club
Got a marquee going up for a wedding on 27th June till 30th not sure if you could smoke and would probably only be available on the 29th funny enough that's my birthday
Or it could be done in the club house but all smoking would have to be done on the decking outside

You can get round it with a little creativity. Some years back some mates and I organised a suits and England football shirts night .... it went really well and was a lot of fun .... and t-shirts can look good with a suit.

I'm well up for this! There is a really nice restaurant/hotel in Preston called Ferrari's, they are set in their own grounds and will put on events for "reasonable" costs... I had preliminarily approached them about a Cuban evening in their grounds for the summer and they were pretty positive they could accommodate.

They have 22 rooms so if numbers were up to the herf amounts last night then there could be issues with everyone staying and another issue is that it's in Preston which isn't exactly a hub and is quite a distance from many... But I'm sure there's plenty of places like this, perhaps closer to the middle of the country?

Actually I should point out that most if not all of the 22 rooms can be doubled up if needed and I'm pretty sure if we got enough numbers to make a large block booking that they could work out some kind of deal. (Though I will point out the last bit is speculation on my part.)
