  • Lighters - Anybody have this problem?

I thought I would post this here since my local tobacconist doesnt have a scooby.

My friend bought be a relatively expensive lighter (for me anyway, i think it was about ?40). It is one of those auto ignition jet ones similar to this http://www.cgarsltd.co.uk/pierre-car...n-p-13432.html . I had it about 6 months and the thing just stopped lighting, so I took it back to the shop and I asked if there was any maintenance I needed to do. They of course dodnt have a clue, but they at least sent it back and got me another. Now 6 months on the same thing is happening, so Im guessing there is some sort of maintenance I need to do - but since I or nobody I know has ever owned anything other than a disposable or a zippo I have no idea what I need to do.

Can anybody help me out here?

Are you using premium fuel? (what one)
Are you purging between every fill?
    Is it still sparking?

A strong blow or blast with an air line can do wonders.

I did wonder too but I thought it a bit cheeky to ask

Sounds like a crap design to me. Go back and get another.... Then return it in a few days for a refund.

I bought this lighter a while back,

?40, free engraving, fuel level, in built cutter, looks sexy, fast delivery and most important of all it lights my cigars better than any of the previous lighters I've tried.

                          Thanks Agricola,
It is VERY similar to the lighter in question, just that mine is a completely silver finish, so Im guessing it uses the same mechanism. Are you a latin expert or do you play the board game by the way?

It is definitely not leaking gas - there is a little gas level thingy on the side and it is definitely not going down without use.

I've had a few lighters stop igniting after constant use, a blast down the top with an air duster cleared the dirt buildup.

This can be down to the brand of gas used, I switched to the St Dupont gas and never had a problem since.

Pick up a Scorch on Ebay, looks nice and definitely my favourite lighter at the moment
