  • Por Larranaga PC

I smoked my first Por Larranaga last week. A Petite Coronas from a 50 cab with 1 year on it.

On first view the cigar seemed to be as rough as a bear's arse, tiny pieces of wrapper hanging loose. Spongy to the touch ... I wondered if it would light. Well the thing lit and on my first draw there was a bouquet of floral flavours. Then less than an inch in it went to light cedar wood. Shortly after that by half way dark coffee took the forefront, remaining until the end.

A perfect burn, and pretty awesome PC. Many Cohibas and Trinidads of the same vitola have paled in comparison. My advice is if you're thinking about stocking up, buy a cab of these. A fair price (for a Cuban PC) for something that's above and beyond many of the more expensive/popular brands.

I use an 8 litre lock&lock box to hold all 50 in their cabinet.

Only surprised a sophisticated chap like yourself had never tried PL's before. Yes, the cabs are best but yo'll notice a great improvement over the next couple of yrs. 3-5yrs these are really exquisite, my fav PC by far. And so big? I always keep two cabs in stock. Oldest at present '07 & smoking great.

Well I've never been accused of being sophisticated before, well maybe a few times

But on not having smoked a PL previously I'm afraid it was more due to finances than anything else. That and the fact I've not had a box large enough to hold a 50 cab up until now. I may have smoked one in a sampler many years ago but I don't recall. The brand is quite rare, I can often pick up a Montecristo at the local newsagents or a tobacconist, but Por Larranaga? I think Habanos would do itself a big favour by redirection some of their efforts towards this extremely unloved brand.
Yet if they did it may cause quality to plunge and price increase?

A great cigar IMO, but a 50 cab of cigars you never tried before? Now that's faith!

Its true man, blind faith. And also exactly the kind of thing I do.
Have hovered over the Por Larranaga Montecarlos a few times, a great looking cigar for very little money.

Nice pickup Agricola, I've been so close to buying a cab of these many a time, but always end up plumping for something else.

Buy that cab! The one I smoked is just over a year old and tastes fabulous. I'm considering buying a second cab to age now.
