Can't the university help him out with a list of student friendly landlords or halls of residence?

Ahh yes if its for a student definately use the university's housing dude. Much more suitable for students with no money. Now if we're talking rich student Knightsbridge isn't bad.

i like the phrasing of Tommy's post! "x, if y, then z." very good

not exactly rich but he has been living off a job for a while. just going back to school for an upgrade in education. was hoping for him to explain this all himself... but i guess it'll help if you knew what he's looking for.
        what's Knightsbridge like?

I've lived in London since I was 5.

Knightsbridge is a great place though prices are rather high. I live in Oakwood which is zone 5. It's a suburban paradise. Fantastic place to live in terms of safety, schools etc but I guess your friend will be less concerned about these things. A 1 room house share should be around ?500pcm, 1 bed flat ?800-?1000, 2 bed flat ?1100-?1250.

You can also have a look at southgate, Barnet, finchley, cockfosters for good places to live. Drop me a pm and I can give u more information on the immediate area once he finds a property he likes if in north london.

Best place to look is on gumtree.com as the landlords will post their own properties rather than through agents and usually the saving will be passed on to the tenant.

I guess the important thing will be where his uni is. He'll want to be close, or on the same tube line for easy access. U can live in London and still commute for over an hour

Woodford is expensive - overly so I think for the area. I live in Hainault - Just as good transport links and half the rent. 600-700 for a 1 bed flat here.
