  • Heading to Cyprus.

I'm off to Cyprus for two weeks in October, I'll be taking a little box of treats over with me but anticipate running out about halfway through the fortnight.

We'll be staying near Ayia Napa (Nissi Beach) and will have a car for the week in the middle of the holiday to get out and explore the island a bit (my grandparents retired out there before they died and I've been but stayed on Akrotiri & didn't leave much)

I'll be stopping by some of the LCDH on the island, but is there anywhere else worth visiting?

I would stay away from anything that's not LCDH. Best one is in Nicosia. The reason being cyprus is (as u know) a hot country. If the humidor isn't set up right the cigars could be in a bad state and this is common in hot countries.

Worth trying to get hold of the Bolivar Greco which was an exclusive for Greece and cyprus. Great cigars and they work out to around ?14-16 a stick.

There is a LCDH in Nicosia. I know a guy who visits there and says it is good. Especially for older or discontinued stock.

This is kind of my concern, some of the shops over there are pretty shoddy at the best of times, let alone when purchasing something like smokes which require the right environment. Was really hoping for some out of the way gem of a tabacconists though, somewhere tucked away from the tourist traps with a good range of Cuban and NC sticks (especially as singles) to enjoy on the beach. If there's no good reliable source out there other than LCDH I may just take NC's and spend a bit whilst I'm out there.

Cheers I'll try and keep an eye out.

Does anyone know if it's worth keeping some Euros for the LCDH at the airport on the way home?

The shop Duncan speaks of has apparently got some gems in!

I normally go to the one in Limassol or at larnica airport but at the airport shop tehy can be a bit hit an miss as to weather they will allow you to open boxes and check them depends on who is working I guess, both have decent selection
LCDH will not sell N/Cs and I can not recall seeing any shop that sell them but never looked to be honest

                Cheers all.

Took a big Tupperware full of fairly cheap NC's with me in the end, fearful of storage and not knowing how they'd travel, turned out to be a non issue and they all survived in good smoking condition.

Visited LCDH in Nicosia, good selection with loads of stock and some good limited releases as singles and boxes, nice and friendly staff but concious of not having anywhere to store boxes of cigars in the hotel, I only picked up a 5 pack of Monte 5's to see me through the holiday. One was plugged, two were too tight to enjoy and two were great, my first disappointment with Cubans.

Larnaka airport was OK, even with Duty prices were reasonable (some were very well priced.) Good selection of regular releases, left with a 25 Box of Monte 5's and a small pack of Siglo I (Winter is coming, time to get some shorter smokes in!)

Great to hear, but most importantly, did you have a good holiday?!

                      Awesome thanks.

One thing that struck me is how much better their smoking ban works than ours. I used to travel quite frequently but have barely left the uk since I've been smoking let alone all these bans and stuff coming into force.

At home you're often forced to walk a gauntlet of cigarette smokers huddled tightly around the door in a cloud of nasty smoke just to get in to a lot of pubs & bars, and certainly around here good outdoor seating areas to enjoy a cigar are rare.

Abroad with a warmer climate where many places are open/semi outdoors anyway it just works so much better! It you want to sit back and have a smoke after dinner there's a good chance you'll be able to light up, as you're outdoors there's less chance of annoying those around you and determined smoke haters can sit indoors to enjoy a completely smoke free environment.
