  • Anyone tried this Matexa Greek Blended Brandy?

This is blended from Greek brandies as old as 30y, it looks a nice bottle and I'm certainly open to trying brandy from other countries than France. Anyone had it? They don't do a taster.

The older Metaxas are very very good..... Not quite like a brandy in the way you will be expecting though. Treat it as a spirit in its own right and don't get anything under 5 star (7 Star ideally) and you will be ok.

7 star is what I buy for drinking under my table. Nice quick drink. Superb and sweet. Tastes more like a liquid molasses with no aftertaste which is odd, really. But eerily delightful.

One of my stellar drinks of choice due to pricing.

The forum monkey enjoys the deluxe which we don't have in Canada. I've never heard of this one and don't want to in case it sounds too good!

The one I like is 'private reserve'. Like a good rum with floral and botanical notes. Same as the link. Great with a cigar. About 60 euros in Greek duty free.

Sean, the more stars the older and more expensive it is. then they go onto specific names up to AEN which is ?2k per bottle.

Sounds like 3 star.... which is a waste of an otherwise useful bottle.

AEN means eternal, Cask 1 at metaxa is called Spyros and has been in constant use for 80 years..... I guess they are saying the barrels 'spirit' is eternal.
