          Singles, fivers, boxes. Obsession/collection.

Gonna go out on a limb here and would say that 99.9% to guys on here are obsessed and not addicted.

Allow us to critically define what an obsession and addiction is.

An addiction is something that one will feel uncomfortable without - a physical, mental, psychoactive, or social dependancy on a certain item.
An obsession is something that preoccupies one's mind no matter what but if one is constantly busy, it will not cause a feeling of uncomfortability.

For the defined articles above, I would say that I am obsessed with the concepts of cigars - everything about it. But I am in no way addicted.

an addiction has to be characterisable... it's [in many ways] a handicap of sorts on the body or mind (wallet doesn't count! )

due to an uncharacterisable nature, one cannot say it's an addiction. Surely allusions can be drawn to standard addictions to drugs but it's eventually too different to matter.

I wouldn't really class myself as either; I can go a week or more without smoking (just as well as I have to smoke outside so weather dependant) and I'm not constantly thinking about smoking or buying cigars.

I'd say I just have an interest in smoking, collecting and learning about cigars but that's it.

My interest in collecting cigars is (for now) limited to developing enough of a stock that if anything happens financially I still have something to enjoy or, worst case scenario, sell.

I'm hoping this never happens and I simply reach retirement age with a very healthy, diverse stock of well aged Cuban cigars to enjoy.

                            An obsession for me too
                            I buy singles & boxes of 10's & 25.
It also serves as a recollection. Thinking back when we've been to Cuba, I really really enjoy going to Cuba!!
Each time I smoke a cigar, it takes me back to sitting on the balcony at night, enjoying a rum & coke, watching the electrical storms out at sea, a memory that will stay with me for evermore & one that i hope to continue to repeat soon

I'd have to agree here, I work outside and could smoke every day if I wished to without fear of getting a bollocking from Mrs Tommy. I very rarely smoke in the evenings and weekend are rare too as it just doesn't fit into my lifestyle in the main. As a consequence I smoke the odd one at work, maybe one a week tops.
The main reason I smoke one at work is that I don't sit outside on my own while the wife is in the house. When our next baby is born I won't be smoking evenings unless I have specifically agreed it with Silvia, the baby may wake any time and need attention and I can't pick him up if I've been smoking.
That's the background story, the point of it is that I could smoke four a day at work if I wanted too but I don't, for that reason I'm not addicted to smoking them. I had a mad buying spree when I first joined this forum but I've all but stopped now unless Martyn tempts me with something [emoji16]. I think that shows that addiction and obsession don't fit me. I love smoking a cigar and sipping a drink, I have serious form for obsessive, compulsive and addictive behaviour but seem to be managing to deal with this cigar business ok. My biggest problem now is that my stash is rather untidy, part of me wants to stick to a 2hour and a 1 hour smoke and just age a rotating stock of those two cigars. If I did that I'd have the Siglo IV as the long smoke, not sure the short smoke. I'd keep some special stix in a 50 count too but limit it to that. Well that's how I see it going for me.
