  • Whisky at Morrisons

They seem to have a lot of their single malts at a relatively normal price, hovering at ?26

Unfortunately, they've dropped (at my branch anyhow) Laphroaig 10yr and Cask and replaced them with the Select Grabbed some Talisker instead

Yeah, a decent second best to the Laphroaig tonight as I really fancied it. This Xmas will be a little weird as the father in law passed in Feb and he was a short paddy, big drinker guy. Loved his whisky/whiskey. Ah, rambled there, oops, sorry!

But yes, it can do a disappearing act if you're not careful ay?

I got a bottle of 15 yo Glenlivet from wait rose reduced from ?44 to ?35 last week. It was very nice but the cheaper Glenmorangie was a nicer drop IMO. I'm looking for something smokey next but didn't get on with the strong peat of the Lagavulin 18 I bought. It's sitting untouched in my pantry. Who can tell me if I can get the smoke without the peat?

Morrison's is usually pretty good for whisky. I got 2 bottles for my birthday last week so can't really justify buying another. Unless its a really good deal, of course

Smokiness comes from peat doesn't it? Few smokier than Talisker in my books though

Ardbeg and lagauvlin are by far the strongest in peat and smoke

Try the Auchentoshan Three Woods, has a slight hint of smoke without the medicinal tang that I don't like in Talisker.

It's like Christmas in a glass, all dried fruit and peel.

Thanks guys, I thought the smokiness came from the peat but wasn't sure. It's a shame, I'll try the three wood for sure but it looks like the smoke comes with a touch of TCP lol.
Lagavulin 18 was indeed a very very strong peat taste which made me think of antiseptic or something. Not a fan. I have a still and plan to make whisky soon, maybe I will experiment with smoking some wood chips for ageing.
