I'm thinking of making some shelves for a project of mine and its a pain to find cedar in a good thickness and size I had considered mdf/pine but hadn't really looked into its viability.

As veneer is much easier to come by.

RE Marc I'm not sure if that website has it as Brazilian cedar because of where is grown as Spanish cedar is grown in Brazil from what I've read. If have to double check the Latin names

I could be wrong here, but I was under the impression that ply would be better as MDF can get warped due to the humidity?

If you want to do a split on the veneer I would be interested. [emoji106]

You're probably right Dan, I'm no woodworker, I read about the MDF shelves elsewhere

Mine is solid cedar, there's no lining and the colour is right for cedar. If I was going to the trouble of making a humi I would DEFINITELY go solid cedar.

Pine is not usually a dense wood, it could swell with humidity. But there are so many kinds of "Pine" being sold that it's also not so easy to know what your buying.

Well, after providing measurements of the pieces I need, they will cut to size, 4mm depth and sand them down so they are good to be glued when they turn up.

Really helpful I must say. Thank you for all your help
