          • First of all lets lay to rest the idea that you can only buy fake cigars in the DR. On the beach and markets and corner shops for sure but as I've shown already this resort has three well stocked shops and yesterday we went on an excursion to the capitol San Domingo. I might not have gone if I'd known it was three hours each way but I learned enough about this island that I will seek out a book about its history to learn more.

Anyway in the Capitol I came across three shops with a good stock of well known Dominican brands as well as local names and Cubans. Having looked at all of these and with MLW well and truly fed up I stumbled across a cigar shop with a roller just inside the door rolling their own brand. MLW dumped herself on the leather sofa with the thoroughly fed up face on. Whilst looking for the elusive La Aurora Escargito that Mo told me about the roller came over and asked if I'd like to try one of their own cigars. He led me round a pillar to a table covered in open mazos of cigars he'd rolled and selected and lit a medium for me. It was excellent and it broke my heart when I had to drop the second half down a drain with the ash intact because we had to reboard the coach. I bought a small box of local corona largas for a friend but that was it because of disapproving looks.
What was also nice was that I wandered in and out of a couple of shops on the way back with it lit and no one batted an eyelid. But this is the country where most of the population race about on little Chinese motorbikes with no helmets so what's one gringo with a lit cigar going to do to health and safety?

Just to rub it in on the way home we stopped at another gift shop with a good selection of cigars again. Look she says, they've got a box of those Playboy cigars and they're 30% off. Then in the next breath days but they're too heavy and too expensive so you're not buying them, aargh!

For reference the Playboy I smoked was smooth and delicious and they come in a black lacquered box with a raised silver bunny on the lid.

What pisses me off is that I have to pay ?20 per kilo if my luggage is overweight but the fat fucker who weighs 30 kilos more than me travels for the same price as me.

                    • Sounds like your both having a cracking time

Regarding weight of cigars, when I was in Vegas years ago I bought two boxes of Padron Anniversary smokes, we were dangerously close to going overweight on luggage, so I got them put into bags and just binned the boxes. Worked great and they transported fine in some blagged bubble wrap.

That is one of the funniest observations I have read in a long time! Great stuff PJ ......Although I was on a 30 person flight from Madrid to Porto...I was asked to change seats due to weight distribution....First and last time it has happened in the 200+ flights I have been on.....I am a large unit....Playing prop for a decade means I am well muscled lol
