  • Managed to get a second film in today. You may not have heard of 'Saints and soldiers : The Void' but once you get over the 'we won the war' attitude this is a fairly decent war movie about a duel between a pair of M18 Hellcat tank destroyers and three Panzer IVs. All the machines and kit was authentic but looked like it had just been driven out of the museum it was borrowed from, they could have dirtied it up a little! A moral tale about racism is added to the plot and there is even an English officer to balance the books, worth a watch if you like tanks - 7/10

        • Good Kill

Ethan Hawke plays an F16 pilot who now flies drones over Afghanistan from an air-conditioned box in Nevada and kills people from 2000 miles away with the pull of a trigger. This is a thought provoking drama about the role of this type of warfare and questions its morality. Well worth a watch - 8/10

I'll have to check that out.
I enjoyed 'lord of war' but was disappointed by 'hurt locker', still confused about people thinking it was so good.

              • Watched 'Good Kill' earlier. Ethan Hawke plays an air force drone pilot bombing Afghanistan.
                Quite a decent movie...worth a watch.

                  • might be a duplicate... but watched The Equaliser the other day. It's a reasonably unchallenging but entertaining action flick. good guys win... bad guys meet grizzly endings. Few uncomplicated twists. While its dramatically not a la Edward Woodward... it is kinda in a similar spirit. I'd watch it again on a rainy day.

Also watched 'The Package' ... this is simply one of the worst movies I've ever seen!! Dont get me wrong, as above, the good guys win and the bad guys meet with suitable endings, but the acting is beyond wooden and the dialogue is absolutely dreadful! If there is nothing better on, then kill time with it on while you do something like drilling your eyes out...

And 'Drift' ... if you like waves and surfing you'll love it. If not, probably not!

                    • I found the Equalizer to be quite nice, within the genre! Haven't see the the other two, though.

                      • i very much liked it too. Much as I would like to see more bad guys get their comeuppance ... I hope it's left as it is and not spun into too many pointless sequels. I really like the main character, a kind of understated superhero...

Dont bother with the package... its not the worst film i've seen, but its close....

                          • Anzio

Keeping up my war movie theme I watched Anzio today. Not one of the better war films, there isn't any combat for the first half and Robert Mitchum doesn't even seem interested - 6/10. Interesting shot here of a young Columbo; Peter Falk, with a Partagas box in which he kept his dollars.

                            • Equalizer : Denzel is dark and moody once he starts to kick off, a role he seems to have played a few times in the past. Good movie, I enjoyed it, doesn't require any kind of thought processing as it's ticking along. I'd give this 6.5/10
Jurassic World : Loved the very first one and watched the 2nd and 3rd ones off the back of that (2nd dire, 3rd OK). If this is the first of a reboot of the franchise then I'm not sure I'd go to the cinema to watch the next one. Visually, it's a spectacle but the plot is weak and there were too many unbelievable (not the dinosaurs) but predictable moments for me. Entertaining but no cigar for me 5.5/10.
