Lucky I'm enjoying NCs more than Cubans at the moment [emoji1]
Do your worst Obama! Only sadness is not getting to see Cuba before it changes out of all recognition.

It'll be interesting to see how it works if this does go through - I think all forums must have had threads with speculation on how it will affects CCs (regarding quality and the brands), it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. I'm slightly concerned about quality, not because of increased production as I'm sure there have been people preparing for the embargo to be lifted, but because the methods cigars are produced may change to bring it more in line with the NC Market, for example, more maduros, or starting to dye wrapper (which I understand happens to some NCs) etc

Apparently this doesn't cover all trade but is a diplomatic lifting of sanctions allowing the two countries to talk politically. It looks like some trade will resume though.

Really. Why would Habanos want to make any challenges, they will be starting from ZERO sales in the USA with a superior and authentic Cuban product. Every cigar they sell will be a gain.

For 50 years Cuba has fronted up to the US Government so I doubt Habanos would be much worried by a bunch of twats in US Lawyer suits ... especially as the argument would be ... Habanos have to cease using Cuban brand names in order that certain non-Cuban companies can carry on using them in the pretence of being Cuban because a fortuitous political situation had made it possible to do so.

Would take years to sort out, by which time the non-Cuban brands will all have gone bust because the whole point and potential of their being in existence no longer exists.

But the question is will we have another bad cigar production year or years like the 2000's because Cuba can't meet demand. Fuck America, keep your Cohiba black dots if you like them so much, keep you mits off our cigars and their brand names.

No because Cuba will have learned the lesson of 1998-2002, and coming in out of the cold will want to come in at the top of her game.

And just out of interest, why should Habanos want to increase production immediately (although they have planned for it), Cuban cigars are a premium quality product, scarcity increases demand which is reflected in the price. Better from their position not to go down the mass production route.

Returning to diplomatic relationships (Embassies etc) and lifting the embargo (that was set into law by Clinton with the Helms-Burton Act) are a bit different. This will require a positive vote from Congress who are currently (and for the forseeable future) Republican. On the whole they will most likely vote against this but it is a step in the right direction.

Not so fast, my monkey amigo!

According to leading americanos, while the conservatives (republicans) will take control the House AND the Senate next January, only a few, in Florida mostly, rely on the vote of the Cuban expats. But this block of voters who oppose lifting the embargo has dwindled over the years and more and more of the younger Cuban-Americans see the benefits of lifting the embargo. So it's quite possible, even with a conservative majority in the House and Senate, that Congress could vote to lift the embargo.

Mis amigos americanos predict the embargo will be lifted sometime next year.

                              GOD HELP US ALL!
