  • Mystery Cohiba - No date stamp or factory code....?

To cut a long story short, my Fianc? Uncle used to enjoy the odd cigar or two. He knows how much I enjoy my passion and is currently helping out on a cedar lining project free of charge.

Anyhow, he said he had a few left, so I asked to see them. This is what was left...

According to Cuban cigar website the dress box of 25 cellophane wrapped Lanceros was discontinued in 1982, so they at least have 30 years on them. I love the box, well cool!

Very cool. I'm guessing they're dry as a nun's Davis? Well worth bringing them slowly up to humidity and smoking one. Are the others H Uppman? Sweet find in any case. Id give my left nut for one of those Lanceros in smoking condition.

Diplomatic lanceros ... Still being made ... In cello dates them to a long time ago ... The band ( without a closeup ) dates them '94 to '02 ( I think Trevor's site will give you the exact years those bands were used ) .

Indeed the band is a match and the same site says cello was used until 2000 so that would suggest a 6 year window.

Edit: the box could be a red herring given that it appears to have been used as a storage device for other sticks.

Box looks different, on the side there's much more white on your photo... Writing is smaller and gold edging is smaller and much closer to the edge.

Well ... The point wasn't to microscopically examine the box ...we all know hsa changes stuff daily let alone decade to decade ... I was just trying to show that cohiba lancero as a diplomatic gift ... We're still being made .

lestabantam gave a discontinuation date and I was trying to let people know otherwise .

No doubt, but I'm trying to be helpful to Ross by piecing together the information we have so he can try to narrow down what he has.

Had one from 1982 a while back from a very good Swiss BotL. bloody brilliant cigar with AMAZING development. It made the Cohiba Piramide 2000 I had afterwards taste like tar (not really)!!

                          oh wow. That's incredibly interesting.
Got a few on you, Derrek? Are they just like the King of Spains where they taste just like regular Cohiba Lanceros (from everyone I have heard)?

fair enough ... The " habanos sa " iron dates them to '94 or younger and the seal dates them to '99 or older .
My guess ( because of the cello ) would be closer to '94 than '99 .
