  • So much for enjoying

I bought a jet lighter yesterday, smoked my first Inka which I found to be not that nice, it went out about 5 times. The lighter itself will not stay lit. Out of 2 cigars it's stayed lit twice, all the other times it just goes out as soon as it's lit, even though I can hear the gas hissing out. I've tried finely adjusting the flame, I've purged it and refilled it 4 times... Still the same.

I wasted an El Rey just now, got half way down and gave up as it went out 4 times and the lighter wouldn't relight it, I may of had 1 nice puff...

Could it be the humidity affecting the cigars staying lit? I have just bought a humidor today but need to calibrate the hygrometer which takes 12 hours...

As for the lighter, am I doing something wrong or is it because it's a cheap jet lighter? Got it from cgars.

To top it all off Ive typed this out once and my phone froze and lost it all. I can see the enjoyment from smoking as I have experienced it briefly but so far I've been concentrating on getting the lighter to light and getting the cigar to stay lit..

Another question.. I have an analogue hygrometer and a digital. I put them both in a salt + water sealed bag (only about an hour ago) and the analogue says about 80% almost and the digital says about 70%.. which one should I listen to?

If you followed the salt test properly, neither as the idea is to see how accurate each unit actually is. Once you've left everything in there for 24 hours, check what they're reading. You'll then know what each unit indicates and be able to mentally adjust or write down a reference such as -10, or +5 depending on where each reading is against the salt test. Make sure you follow instructions about the salt being wet enough to just moisten and not flood it.

I did try matches but only have normal size ones which take about 4 to light it..

I'm based in Eastbourne, East Sussex

I've followed it as best as I can. It told me to put half a coffee cup of sugar and 1/4 water into a sealed bag with the hygrometers. Whilst stirring it in the cup it was quite stodgy but when put it in the bag all the salt ran to the bottom and water stayed at the top of the salt..

Sugar and salt? WTF! I think that was a typo ay unless your knocking up some strange brew to give to someone you don't like, BWAHAHAH

              Sounds like too much water

I'd say start again, but you only really need a cap off a bottle or so, nothing massive really. If you can, fugg the bag off and use a Tupperware box with a proper seal. If you don't have access to a box, never mind.

When applying the water, just drip it in slowly until the salts soaks it up and you be able to tell when enough is enough.

Hmmm too far to pop round with a nice cigar.

What lighter did you get? If you can get hold of a Torjet they are cheap as sin and work for me.

With your last cigar, try putting it into a dry box for 24 hours or so before smoking.

Chico...you should leave the hygrometers in the bag for 24 hours.

                              Another thing now.

Is this cigar still okay? I had it in a 2 cigar leather carry pouch which has damaged the foot.
