  • Boveda - A Word of Warning - To All

First off, I am a true believer in Boveda and their method in which they control the every important relative humidity protecting our fine tobacco leaves and keeping them where they need to be.

As I have a 7 draw singles humidor on route, I dug out some Boveda 84% RH seasoning pouches. Towards the end of a nearly empty box, I spotted one that did not look right. I applied a small amount of pressure to see if the pouch was intact, and was pretty shocked to see this...

As you can see, the contents of the Boveda pouch have been released on the right hand side.

No company is infallible, but after some time being a devout Boveda supporter, I will certainly be checking each pouch from now on.

Hope it was a useful post.

    Cheers,

Ever since I received a popped Boveda pack, I've essentially stopped sending parcels with them. It's not worth it and sandwich bags hold humidity anyways.
Why pay extra for a potential for damage!?

I have a friend who visited London and bought some cigars which were packet with a Boveda pack to keep them safe and humid until he returned home. On examining them when he got home he found that the pack had leaked.
The cigar store has guaranteed to replace the cigars if there is any damage but its clear these packs need to be separated from direct contact from the cigars just in case.

This makes me wonder if its partially why American vendors prefer humipacks

I won't hear a bad thing said about !!BOVEDA!! packs (Or see them get spunked on.). Anything can break, especially little paper packets of salt solution.

Has nobody every read the fine print on the back of a pack?...... It says I fully reserve the right to throw my toys out of the pram at the slightest hint of dissatisfaction!

I actually agree with marc, if ross has had it sitting around for a while anything could of happened. But it does make you think about sending parcels that could get bashed about and burst

I guess the plastic pouch the Boveda came in has done its job
                        1 , kept it fresh
                        2 , contained any spillage from a dodgy pack / transport ?

im a fan of Boveda ,
its worth opening the plastic pouch over the sink , away from cigars and check the Boveda for signs of leaks / weak spots , before putting into the humidor .

Great post Rossy , a reminder for us all
