Oi. If the boxes cost the same amount, why wouldn't I maximise the potential for better cigars?

I assume you mean that the EL box codes do not deserve the attention it gets. Hence the word "Over- Rated".

I believe it does deserve the attention [to detail] it gets. Hence it not being overrated.

Harrumph! As a so-called "scientist," you should know better! Just believing in something, no matter how hard you believe doesn't make it so. Where's your evidence?

Go ahead...make my....errr, I mean, your case, chico.

            I'll be right here...waiting.

Just to claify: I am making a case that El Laguito coded Cohibas are NOT overrated due to the justified hype that they get. Alright - I will say that I'm not up to the task given my experience with all the vitolas of Cohiba , let alone with only EL coded ones.

Irregardless, I can still make a decent point to prove the point right. The boxes (El Laguito or otherwise) are all the same price given the same vendor. No one upcharges for El Laguito rolled cigars - that's a fact. But they are a more consistent, major factory. The factory has been around for longer and is well known in the world. Miscellaneous box coded cigars have shady origins that don't necessarily make it bad - just unknown.
To those who have been to the El Laguito factory (and I'll paraphrase "Ryan" on this forum), it's kept at a much better atmosphere than other cigar forums. With celebrations and more routine 'humanistic' properties that sets it aside from other factories.
There, "a happy worker is a healthy worker is an efficient worker". There is almost a literal philosophy that exists in that place.

Are they really better? Hell - how can I say!? And how can I defend it when my favourite Cohiba (let alone favourite cigar) is the Siglo III that has never been rolled in the Cohiba factory? But I can say that i'd much rather my boxes of cigars come from a place with known and dignified origins.

Well, one thing is for sure....you sure do know a lot of words, amigo!

And it appears you used most of 'em in the above post. Nevertheless, it's mostly hearsay, which is not admissible on this forum, and not based on a scientific study.

Simply put, unless you have first-hand knowledge by comparing those rolled at the great EL factory with those rolled elsewhere, how can one claim one factory is better than another. Now, I have no doubt that there is a difference in quality between factories, just as any other business, and with the reported low quality control in cuban factories, I have no doubt some factories are better than others. But just because the EL is old and most famous, doesn't necessarily make it the best in my book.

And if you have cracked the box codes and can identify what boxes come from what factory (e.g., EL Factory) than you need to post that information up, pronto.

Now this posts contains WAY TOO MANY WORDS, so I need to take a break and chillax with one of don TJ's finest puros and a glass of Habana Rum. I suggest you do the same, except for the part about don TJ's puros.

                The End.

Been fun posting with you, chico Butternutty!

                Perro, el Perro

Ummm el Perro...hearsay IS admissible on this forum...just not in a court of law!

If you don't believe me, then don't. But I will say that all the Behike codes are accurate for 2010 - 2014. Besides... How do you really source something like that? This is currently off my personal memory but i know it's pretty damn accurate!
Except that I think MEL might be the code for 2007 AND 2008... Can't exactly remember.

Ah! that's fair, then. Sorry... that little security guy intimidated me. Internet tough guys are sometimes hard to deal with

Anyway. If you want a source for El Laggy box codes, what better ones than the Cohiba Behike series!? Past 2009 and down will require a bit more tangible source. Something on the lines of which boxes are available. Kinda like all the Partagas box coded cigars.
The Partagas is a bit easier as I believe all La Gloria Cubana MdO 2s are rolled there. Similar things happen with Upmann, RyJ, La Corona factories. Not sure of a sure-fire way to detect El Laguito coded cigars until the Behikes rolled around.

So let me get this straight...you're the source that came up with the factories code based on your own research. Okay, fair enough. Much better than somebody told another person who posted it somewhere in the interwebs.

Alright then...that's as reliable as any sources I've seen elsewhere. Only thing better, I guess, would be to visit the factories and see the actual codes stamped on the boxes, if that's even possible these days.

Now, was that so bad, chico...
