How can they be so blind? Surely they look at C.Gars/Turmeus and think "How on earth are they thriving so much."

Simple...... Good service and a push towards sampling areas. Now I'm sure there's much more to Mitch's business plan, but at the base it is really that simple.

Give your customers what they want! Why can't other tobacconists (Outside of London) see this and make moves to progress rather than staying stagnant???

I think in the end Marc it comes down to simple economics and a more p/c culture, loads of tobacconists around the country have disappeared along with pubs , there isn't the market and demand anymore. Most of us buy our cigars and tobacco on line and at the best price possible, rent, rates and staff expenses and shop fitting etc.... It's an expensive business. I'm sure Mitch certainly survives due to his on line business.Yes it can certainly survive in well established areas but there is an extremely limited demand in outer areas.
What there is certainly a demand for is the return of gentlemen's smoking clubs but sadly our p/c goverment deem these illegal , happy to take the bloody tax though

It's a funny grey area AFAIK, I don't think you can have a club with the sole intention of letting people smoke inside. You can however have a retail outlet with an area for people to sample something they May be interested in buying in bulk.

Yes, that's how Keith at The Prince in Birmingham was able to have the sampling room out back if I remember correctly.
