Unexpected disappointing sticks - how many times do you try them?

So you've had your eye on a cigar, you've read online reviews, comments from blogs and forums and it's by and large had excellent reviews but when you try it you're left deflated, you didn't get any of the flavour / buzz you were expecting. The cigar was everything it should be in terms of looks, construction and smell but failed significantly to deliver in expected taste. Of course everyone's taste is subjective but when a cigar is so far wide of the mark would you revisit it once or twice just to make sure it wasn't a duff stick or a batch problem?

That's an interesting one. I remember back in 2010, I was kite buggying at Les Hemmes, France and drove over the border to Belgium one day to visit a cigar shop. I picked up a handful of singles, including an SLR Regios as I'd not had one before and had read quite good reviews (and have since). I smoked it that evening and it was decidedly below average in the taste and flavour department. I've never had one since, but lots of people rate them, but that experience put me off going back. One day I'll have another pop as they're on form recently from what I gather.

Depends but I can reference the recent R&J piramide Anejados.

The first one I tried very soon after they arrived had nothing about it at all. Nothing memorable anyway. Since then I have smoked 2 more at intervals of about two months and each time they are better. By the end of this year, therefore, this should be a really good cigar!

Had a few like that. I'm sure age played a major part. Shame when that happens though - smoking an unenjoyable cigar… Always good to have a plan B lined up - just incase...

Same here had a trini Reyes last year wasn't impressed at all , I'd certainly try another one one day , the thing with cigars there is such a wide varied choice you don't have to follow the norm and if you find one you don't particularly like move on , just because everyone rates it doesn't mean you have to. Try singles find out the types you like and away you go . In the end we are all here because we love cigars all cigars and if your tastes are a cheap ?3 robusto or a ?25 aged Cuban go with it and enjoy

I tend to give a brand as a whole about 3 chances with 3 different sticks and then I call it a day.
For example, bolivar for me are just to full from my tastes. I can see why people like them, but they're just not for me.

Ninfananiac, people On here like them..... I think they are disgusting. Also my first Hoyo, a Depute I believe..... it was crazy strong and blew my head Off with a powerful cedar bitter taste. I have had them since and liked them though so a very bad stick I think.

Yeah i definitely here where your coming from and all cigar smokers will have this experience with a selection of sticks over time. I cant stand the Petit Edmundo possibly one of the most overrated CC's ever

Might get some abuse here, but i have also found the RASS to be very disappointing and full of hype, even at its price point you can pick up better cigars Like D4 or VR Famosos (dribble!)

I love Ry J Petit and Short Churchills and they're becoming a staple of my humidor but I just cant get on with the RyJ Petit Corona. Some people love them but to me they just taste of cardboard. Smoked a few to check it wasn't just a bad stick and they've all ended up being chucked up the garden.

I have been disappointed in RASS which a lot of people seem to enjoy. In all fairness though, I did break down and buy another cab of RASS to put down for a year or two and give a second chance. Hoping with some down time and a different box code my opinion may change!

I think you have to factor age into this discussion. I have smoked some cigars which were just too young. Then you get a new cigar which is just amazing straight out of the box like the new Por Larranaga Picadores.

Mine was a Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios. I really looked forward to smoking this cigar (I love Maduros) but was left really disappointed and with not being an experienced Cohiba smoker suspect it was just too young. I see CGars Ltd have aged ones so I might give one of those a go but not being a kick in the arse off ?30 a stick......

X2 on this....was disappointed in these. Definitely a LOT different than the other Cohibas I've had.
