  • Disappointing (To say the least) Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios

Thought I would treat myself to a fine Cuban yesterday afternoon after a hard 3 hours patio cleaning. One of the very few times recently I've had the time on my day off to take an hour or so to relax with a fine smoke. I had 2 of these in the Humi and have been looking forward to them for a while. To cut a long story short, it was a horrible smoke. The draw was terrible, in fact I could feel a headache coming on with the effort to get a draw and to keep it lit. I gave up less than half way through feeling cheated and a little pee'd off as it wasn't a cheap stick. Can only hope the other Maduro I have is better than this.

The upside of the day however was a lovely RASS I had later that evening, my first and definitely not my last.

I've haven't tried many of the Cohiba Maduro line, only the Secretos, which was a decent enough smoke, but I prefer the 'normal' Cohibas as a general rule though - have you tried any of them?

I hate it when that happens!!
Very expensive sticks rarely live up to my expectations.

I didn't like the box I bought so I sold them. The buyer even thought they might be fake but they weren't. A well known vendor had loads from the same year so I suspect that was a bad year. What year are yours? 2009?

Yes, I have a few in the humi and have tried Piramides Extra, BHK 56 & 54 and Siglo 4,5 & 6. All of which I really enjoyed, although I'm not convinced about value for money they're still a nice smoke. I certainly wouldn't turn one down if offered

I don't know Tommy, never thought to ask I bought a couple of singles to try before I took the plunge, probably just as well !

I bought a box while in Cuba, and they look fabulous, but I haven't tried 'em yet... should give one a go soon, and I do hope I like them more then you do.

I wouldn't right them off because of bad construction in one stick, though I'm personally not a huge fan. Just out of intrest what humidity do you store at?

Maduro 5 line ... I can't and will never be convinced that these are a cohiba ... They are just wrong and should be relegated to the " whoops we made a mistake " bin .

so don't be too sad .

I've had a couple of single sticks in the past, one of which was very good and one more recently which was poor.

For some reason, I just can't seem to get into the cohiba Madura series....

Essentially sums up everything I need to say.
Those secretos are pretty nice for a non-Cuban profile with Cuban development. but the cost makes them something to avoid. Bloody shame, that as it would've had potential.

We'll also see glimmers of a Partagas Maduro line up soon. That is something that'll I'm "curious" about (with the connotations of: Morbid curiosity, schadenfreude, and a few other funny words)

Pretty much 70%. Can't seem to get it much lower. Have ordered some HF beads to see if they help.

Thats probably part of the problem there, try dry boxing your other one before smoking and seeing if it makes any difference

This line doesn't taste "cuban" to me. Strenght without depth.
