advice on a cigar purchase

I bought a box exactly like that, there's a guy about online that sells them for $200 siglo VI fakes. They're ok smokes but not great. I have since regretted buying them though. The way I see it if you buy fakes knowing they're fake then you're just proper gating the fakes industry. Why not forget the bloody fakes and buy a bundle of custom rolled Canonazo? If you need help I can even help you buy them and they're guaranteed to be better at the same price.

As others have said it's usually a nod to the watch it is emulating but without any of the branding... and the price differences are huge. Rolex sub is probably the most counterfeited watch; about ?4K for the real thing and about ?200 for a decent 'homage'. Some of the fakes are phenomenally good.

Hi, both very nice watches! - you're right you also see lots of brands picking up design cues from other brands... though some would say the Rolex sub is an homage to the Blancpain fifty fathoms, but that's another story.

Cheers, quite a coincidence I was looking round the Argyle Arcade in Glasgow today which has a load of Jewellers, I lost count of the amount of different brands with the "same" style of watch.

I have had to Google homage and I didn't realise the similarity to the expensive original. The seiko is really nice

While the likelihood is that they're fake there's a possibility that they're not. The question is, are you prepared to stake that kind of money on a gamble? how trustworthy is the source? The reason I say they could be genuine is because I bought 10 RyJ Churchills from a cowboy (hey he was wearing the hat) who was rolling them during a factory visit to Holguin, Cuba. They went straight from his rolling table into my gf's bag. Now I know they're real, unbanded, but not fake. if the same guy had offered me them at the gate I would have bought them there. At a couple of quid a stick, they'd be worth a gamble imo. They'd be cuban tobacco and might be the real deal. If he'd wanted €200 for them I would have walked. That money would be better spent on a box of something which I *know* is genuine. Mind, I'm not a big gambler. When I do bet I do it for fun and entertainment not expecting a return on my money.

Hi, a friend of my girlfriend's has just offered up 2 boxes of 25 Siglo VIs for ?200 per box. Her boyfriend is Cuban and his mum works at Cohiba, so apparently these cigars left the factory very recently. I'll try to post a picture of the box but is this too good a deal to be real? - anything that I can ask to check these are good?

Whats a homage when its made by a company who owns the other company and they both use a derivative of the same movement?

I believe this is the case with Longines and Omega

Yeah - banaleaf and twigs is pretty accurate if they run out of stolen tobacco leaf. They are very resourceful.

The cigar factory story above is very interesting. Sadly I missed that opportunity as they took our bags from us before we went in...But strait off the table would be nice!
