Hi Wolfie, love the Havana club I brought some back from Cuba recently, and a bottle of Havana club 'Ritual' both great rums, didn't know much about the Ritual so asked in the airport and it is for the Spanish market, turns out it's more expensive over here than the Havana club 7.

Some of the guys on here from years ago will remember me banging on about various rums.

There is a charming French gentleman (not words I often use) who buys single origin, single year rums from around the Caribbean and transports them back to his cognac vineyard and ages/finishes the rum in ex-cognac barrels. The output is wildly different due to the different origins and vintages of the rums but each release is interesting and never below good, often superb.

I would encourage you to track down some of his product, it is released as the "Plantation" rum brand. The 20th Anniversary is a great drinker. I fell in love with an '89 Trinidad he released that is now long gone (I think) so I stockpiled.

              Just my two cents worth.

You used to bang on about a lot more than rum from memory T

Nice to read you after a long time. I hope life has been treating you well.

I have never tasted Appletons before as rum was not my drink off choice
but I have tasted a few as I went to the Rum feast last year to see what
                        was so nice about rum.
this was the best rum I have every tasted so far.

The Diplomatico Exclusiva Reserva that Ranks mentions in the previous post is not badly priced, is popular with many and not impossible to find but I struggle with it. I find it so sugar heavy that after a couple of sips I can taste nothing else.

In the U.S. you can get Zaya rum for around $25, often a little less. That is a great affordable rum that isn't as sugar heavy but still on the sweeter side. I recall it being hard to find in the UK but hunt some of that down for a regular drinker.

Thanks for the greetings guys, it is true I have not been on here in forever. I am still living in San Francisco and smoking and drinking when I feel the urge.
