Whats you're fav Spirit

My favourite spirit, for a spirit's sake, has to by Plymouth Gin (I can even drink it neat). I also like Hendricks - which is excellent in a G&T with a slice of cucumber rather than lime for a change.

With a cigar though... it really depends upon what I'm smoking. A nice rum (such as Pussers or 7yo Havana Club) will frequently hit the spot - with or without a drop of coca cola. If it's not one for rum, then a whisky dry often works well - no particular favourites (bog standard Famous Grouse or Bells will suffice). Having said whisky dry, I do love Macallan 10 or 18 yo sherry oak with ice, or even better, in a hot chocolate in a cold snowy place!

The best Scotch for stogies, I think, is Laphroaig. Very peaty, deep and full of smoke. Would match a punchy short smoke, I think. Try Lap. Quarter Cask.

Definitely agree that the Laphroig quarter cask is one of the best whiskys out there to accompany a cigar. I also think a glass of Lagavulin, or Port Ellen goes down nicely too. And of course, if im feeling patriotic, it has to be a Bushmills.

Never really been a big rum drinker - but it sems to come highly recommended - may have to sample a few!

If I'm going to have a Spirit, it will be a Whiskey of some kind. I'm not much of an expert in this field, but I think I enjoy chocolatey kinds of malts. I do like Penderyn (oh the coincidence since we're both welsh). Something like Aberlour is excellent too.

I have a bottle of this which has the Welsh rugby team signatures on it Stevegriff, never tried it as yet, maybe i should give it a go one of these days.

For me it's a good single malt like Ardbeg or a good Armagnac. Both go very well with a good cigar.....

HabanosY, I second your cigar pairings in the picture - Courvoisier is a top drink for a medium smoke, probably rivals a decent Scotch.

I think my current favourites have to be Four Roses bourbon (straight) or Hendrick's gin with Schweppes tonic, ice but no fruit. I'm not really up on my spirits but I'm discovering more that I like.

Yep, I am in agreement with a few of the guys here and I would have to say that Rum is definitely my preferred choice of spirit when smoking a fine cigar.

My favourites are Ron Zacapa, Goslings Family Reserve, Clement X.O. and Pussers. I drink all of these straight apart from the Pussers which I mix with some coke as it is very powerful.

Westahall Rum

If ever in Granada there is a Rum that is to die for. Made by Munks of Westerhall . Must pick up a bottle to try.

HabanoSy - have you tried Pussers Red Label? It's a 42%ABV rather than 54.5%ABV, so slides down with less of a kick than the standard blue label.

Just picking up an interesting topic by Dave... my favourite tonic water (by far) is Fever Tree. Schweppes is definitely my second choice, but it is quite distant. Fever Tree has none of the sweetish taste/feel that other tonics have, and you can really taste the gin coming through - particularly good with a distinctive gin like Hendricks.

At the risk of reading like a commercial... Fever Tree was developed by the former director at the Plymouth Gin distillery, who wanted a tonic that he could really taste different gins through. It really lets the gin (rather than the mixer) do the talking. As it happens I was put onto it at the Plymouth Gin distillery, which is, incidentally, about a one minute walk from my apartment in Plymouth (near to Sutton Harbour in the Barbican, for anyone that knows the city).
