I try to make a point every year of smoking the Cigar Aficionado Cigar of the Year and the My Father Le Bijou 1922 box pressed torpedo is the winner for 2015.

Its a beautiful looking cigar with a splendid band as you can see. The wrapper is a dark chocolate brown with an almost matte finish that smelled faintly of cocoa. I usually light before I cut but on this occasion took off a quarter inch to sample the cold draw. The tobacco looked compressed beneath the cut, partially due of course to the cutting, and the draw was light and aromatic. The initial contact left a chilli burn on my lips.

It lit nicely without any initial pepper and was soon producing lots of thick white smoke.

The initial flavour had slightly bitter coffee notes that smoothed out into a more caramel flavour but retained that bitter edge for the first third when it became smoother and more rounded. There was never any hint of pepper despite that initial chilli on the wrapper.

The ash was light and flakey and held for the first third but was starting to droop when i tapped it off. It burned straight and well until the half way mark whence it needed a few relights.

Best cigar in the world last year? No
    Good smoke? Yes
Good enough to buy again? No

Great review of a good cigar. A bit of a shame it wasn't the other way 'round ay?

I popped into JJ Fox just after lunch and had a delightful Por Larranga Sobresaliente.

Great evening with Krist in JJs. Made a very welcome change from working all the time I'm in London. Had a Hoyo San Juan. Been wanting to try one for ages. Decent cigar, a few construction issues towards the end. Sorry no pictures, but I have a witness, honest guv. Came away with a Monte 2 from Krist - thank you for the gift and good company!

HdM petit Robusto. Bit bitter. Hoping the other 149 are better as I enjoy the vitola.

Had time for 1 of my 2 samples of the Ortgea Serie D Mundo no 8 this evening

I had to say it was a lovely Cigars....a prefecture draw for me, just right lots of smoke, the ash had a lovely grey white colour....and held to at least and inch before dropping off.

It's was a medium smoke...lots of coco and cream, coffee notes...with a bit of spice...but nothing too spicy...not much complexity in the transition from the first to third quarter but final third was Spicer....

More of less smoked or all the way down, it lasted around 80 minutes..great way to sign the day off

                        ...looking forward having it again.

Trinidad Vigia - lovely classic citrusy Trini flavours. Still a bit harsh from its young age, but unless I'm mistaken it's gonna age beautifully.

i found much the same with young vigia... i've resigned myself to letting them rest... which is tough!
