  • How often do you purge / do you purge at all?

I've seen quite a few posts over the past few days where people have indicated how long it takes them to smoke a stick. On balance I'd say I'm a pretty slow smoker (in comparison) but I still find purging every so often improves the flavour particularly in the last third.
Anyone else purge as they smoke their sticks?

Yes RB, I'm in that camp for sure. Two or three times, applying the ol' flamb? purge often sweetens a stick up no end for me, especially those that may be a little juvenile and sticking their chest out in the last third. Singe the hairs right off the buggers, and put some manners on them! That often tames them down,

Sure do, it can save a stick if it starts to get a bit harsh

Totally agree and that's what I was trying to say but went all cryptic.

Wow, were getting advance this evening, I've learnt two new terms, I assume purging is blowing the smoke out of the foot? Cant say I ever knowingly have, i'll try it when I've finished practicing my retrohale.

Its also good for keeping the cigar alight as the draft heats everything up like blowing on coals

I seem to have developed an mini blow through before taking a draw... A purge in progress throughout a smoke .... Not sure of its wisdom...

If I take my time & the cigar looks dormant, I'll give it a gentle blow through just to get the foot glowing

Every relight and/or when the cigar is starting to go out. When I take double or triple puffs in order to relight the cigar, as well. A purge follows a rapid puffing session.

Or just when I feel like I need to. You start to get a sixth sense about these things when it starts to give you the "I don't think it's tasting right" feel. Do it when necessary and if the smell and taste are still going strong, then I see no reason to purge.

It's also more prevalent when the wind is stronger.

As others I purge if/when the cigar starts to get bitter, although I do find it a short term solution

Not sure it's a sixth sense though Jeremy, more likely the sense of taste
