Good review. The Coloniales is a very good cigar becoming an even better one at around 5 or 6 years. Simon makes a good point though, if you like the Coloniales the Fundadores should be right up your street.
I wouldn't worry too much about his suggestion 'the gold banded versions' as you're unlikely to find any.

Welcome back Arf, long time no hear, missed ya! I agree that the avge newbie isn't likely to trip over any gold banded fundy's but they are still out there & although securing a box is beyond most of us (including me), singles & swaps are possible. CASC in Aberdeen had some just a couple of months ago & I brought a pack of 5 from 2001 there.

Nice pick up. I've 3 gold banded. The worry (fear) of course is smoking them. All that taste expectation countered by the 50/50 possibility of a plug .... oh well, will have to bite the bullet soon, only 18months left in my cigars exit plan at 70. (2 summers).

See you have lost messages Arf but should you be in the unpleasant situation of having some cigars left unsmoked the day after your 70th, always willing to make an offer to remove that temptation for you. Sure your be planning to finish them off by that day but even so...
P.S. I have had some Gold Label Fundys that were a little tighter than I'd like but none I say that were plugged.

I've just had my first Cigar from Trinidad, the Coloniales. As I'm new to the hobby and still learning tastes/notes all I can say is it was a wonderful smoke. Really nice cigar to hold, a good draw and I definitely got a nutty note in the 2nd third. Some leathery notes throughout. As a novice I would say this is what cigars should taste like.... if you get my drift. I will be buying some more these.
