54, 55, 56! ring gauges. Talk about jaw ache cigars. Wish they would bring out more smaller ring gauge ones.

What is the deal with the ever increasing ring gauges? I've read it's a US thing, but surely a good stick is a good stick, and bigger just isn't always better? I'll admit to having had my first 60RG smoke recently, and it wasnt too jaw-aching, but I would have said 50 was about the limit for being able to pay attention and not just herf into oblivion.

I'm definitely a fan of the TPC/Perla range of formats as they, if quality smokes (lookin' at you Raph Gonzalez, nice going with keeping it small and deliciously formed), as they seem to demand respect. Puff away and you get a hot/rough/nasty experience (and not in a sordid way...). Be gentle, take your time, and flavour arrives with subtlety.

I have many American friends and I'd never suggest they were lazy, but, as I waffle on here, I wonder, is Havana gearing up for big lazy (probably ruinously expensive over here) smokes that don't require effort?

Hmm... not sure I like that, as it might drive smaller vitolas into endangered status.

Also, I am aware that I seem to be using many multi-claused deeply nested sentences. Apologies if my gist is not obvious.

Basically US Marines vs. Royal Marines, huge and overwhelming, and hyper-aggressive (but liable to get the job done, and still worthy of respect); compared to smaller, more focussed, and more precise. I wonder if I'm the first here to have just considered using Jane's Fighting Ships as a cigar guide...

A lot of big ring gauges, but there are still a few smokes I'll be looking to try!

looks an interesting selection of sticks. i dont doubt there will be a US bias as RE's evolve, along side elements of regular production to suit this new market. But with influence from H&F and other prime regional import partners, the domestic demand of each region will remain with a voice.
