    Neat and Scottish

Neat for me unless I'm drinking cask strength, then a few drops of water as it really does help to open it up.

I collect Ardbeg, got a 1974 Single Cask 1 of 133 bottles, also some limited editions, Lord of the Isles etc..

Always neat for me. I know that a drop of spring water opens up the amber nectar more, but for my tastes (even with cask strength) I prefer it untouched by ice or water.

Neat and at room tem. Whisky should sit in your glass for ten min before drinking it.

Correct about the first 2 points, but not the latter. Absurd - all the booze evaporates! Also good luck restraining yourself. And what about when you want a 2nd dram? Impractical.

i was a bit of a Whisky snob years ago, only drinking single malts and neat, i had a pretty good bar tricks - blindfold test etc. until i wore a kilt to an Irish wedding. I got a lot of attention and jokingly offerd pictures with me for a Whisky - many poses later - taste buds were ruined forever, i blame the Irish Whisky brand Powers. that and different Whiskys in same glass (boke)

Try this for single malts if you haven't already. take a straw with bottled water and use as a dripper - 2 drops to start. depending on the Whisky, it can make a massive difference - opening up the flavours.

these days, i always add a splash of water to my malt Whisky and always have ice with any blended, like most things in life - if its good its good!

Yes, ive been told many times that adding a drop or two of water brings out the oils, like rain releasing Petrichor on a dry concrete path aftrr a summer shower. I still dont do it

Just added a drop to my Black Label tonight
Does smooth things out a bit.

Aberlour abunadh is my favourite scotch. Used to be about ?45 for a bottle which at 59% abv isn't bad (if you dilute it). They recently increased the price to ?80 a bottle which is a piss take. Snagged one for ?60 on Prime day last week, along with a new (as of 2018 I think) offering of theirs - the casg annamh screen right - a rich, Sherry finished number, 48% and cheaper than the abunadh at ?49 or so (?40 on Prime day). The 12 on the left is useless.

So I think I've found my goldilocks staple now.

Completely agree with you - I used to have A’Bunadh on my shelf constantly but refuse to buy it at ?80-?90 a bottle. It used to be great value, not anymore. Much better out there for that money. Was tempted on prime day though, I must admit. How are you finding the Casg Annamh?

Nice - I've only had a couple of drams but I'll update you in a week - quite sweet, great strength (no dilution required for me)... Seems good so far. Abunadh is still my favourite - I'll keep it for special.
