  • Cuba to dsscontinue 50 Cabinets entierly

I heard Ajay Patel mention in his most recent video that Cuba has stopped making 50 cabs entirely?

Over the past 6 years there has been a decline of 50 cab packaging, the mag 46 went, the epi no2 went, trini fundadores etc However my biggest concern is whats to happen to those cigars that you can only buy round in cabs of 50's? Mostly referring to the Partagas Lusitanias, Punch DC, Hoyo DC..............having your cigars round and in a cabinet for aging was part of the premium of buying a 50 cab. Personally like to smoke singles of this vitola from cabs when i can get them.

I think this is a very bad move and would disappoint me if they didn't introduce 25 cabs of these cigars to compensate.

Whats everybody's thoughts? or if any you guys have some more in depth info would be good to hear.

As a passionate cigar lover i find this very upsetting

I've never bought a 50 cabinet. I see they're still being produced and sold though. When will production stop and why?

Nor have i, although i do dream of owning a 50 cab of Punch DC's one day according to Mr Patel very recent, i wouldn't be surprised if this is true as they will probably cut the production cost and invest that budget into the endless LE,RE, GR and special humidors with big ring gauge cigars etc.....................and at the rate all this special production stuff is coming out its not so prestigious anymore

I hope this isn't the case...I'm sure they would re introduce a smaller cab or even smaller boxes so those 50 only cab cigars would disappear...however this is Cuba lol

to be honest Cuba are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't....more newbies like my self would want to see more 10 boxes when exploring new and different cigars and I'm sure once I'm more experienced I would like the bigger cabs of the cigars I love.

You can get dress boxes of lusitanias, punch and hoyo DC BTW. The only cigar I know thats only produced in 50cabs exclusively is the por larranaga petit corona.

I have a couple of 50 cab's of PLPC & ERDMCS & a single of RASS. I have heard these buzzes before & certainly is the trend to wind down the larger boxes so will probably happen at some stage. If your interested, it would make sense to make these a priority buy. But remember the purpose of the larger cab is to allow them to age better; have round rather than box pressed sticks is just a bonus but one I appreciate. Mine are all from 2006 & are smoking fine right now. I am off to Cuba in Jan so I'll look out for them. Last 50 cab I had was a split but with Moon Dancer. I spotted 2 cabs of Boli CG's in the el Nacional, after searching for them all holiday. Had already bought my allowance by having given up the chase so I 'hid' them at the back & told Moon Dancer, who was going out 6/52 later. When he got there there was still one left. 2007's & they are rather excellent, second only to my pre-band 2002.

Perhaps we could organise some split buys if anyone wants some Lusi's ect?

I must admit I always found a 50 cab to be a very big purchase anyway, and if the 50 cabs were to become available in 25 cabs I would object, it would be a shame if they were reduced to only dress boxes though

Saying all of that though, a 50 cab of RASS has always been on my wish list

'Wouldn't I assume Sheppsea? And neither would most to be honest, 25 cab is certainly a far better option than the dress box. I never bought an Epi No2 cab of 50 because I couldn't see any advantage over the 50 & of course it's twice the outlay. In these straightened times I am sure that's a big factor for most customers.

I wouldnt expect them to introduce 25cabs if the 50s where discontinued. They didnt do it with the Bolivar coronas gigantes.

Indeed it should have been 'wouldn't' - unfortunately one of my more common typing errors

Indeed they did not Shaun & mores the shame. Time to lobby our dealers perhaps or accept the inevitable.

I think we may have to just accept the inevitable if that's the case.......50 cabs are big buys and can understand that the masses are focused more on special production cigars these days as opposed to buying a 50 cab hence for the cut.

I just hope if all this is true that they introduce 25 cabs........now that would be great!
