  • Banana Beer

I was trying a few new beers last night and opened a Wells Banana Bread Beer I purchased from Tesco. It kind of sounds like a weird mix but I thought it was stunning and will definitely be buying more.

Unfortunately I wasn't smoking a cigar but I did think it may go very well with one and is something I plan to try very soon. I would be interested to know if others have tried this beer to accompany a cigar.

Never tried it but I might pick one up today while doing the shop in Tesco.

Well there is a distinct banana taste which sounds weird but it really did work for me. I can't say I've actually had much banana bread to compare.

I picked one up this afternoon and have just supped it. I quite enjoyed it.
Definite hints of banana, and also hints of honey, A fairly sweet drink.
            I will buy some more.

My beer swilling son described it as sickly, sounds like I might try one

It is certainly not one for a session, but just the occasional change.

Are you teetotal or prefer sweeter beverages? If banana bread beer sounds like your thing, there are quite a few sweeter, pudding & coffee influenced beers coming onto the market. Some are way too sweet for me but I've been blown away by how good some of them are.

Almost teetotal, I am just starting to enjoy the occasional fruit cider. I do have a very sweet tooth, wine might as well go on my chips.

Have you tried Kriek, Framboise or Fruli?

In a word, no. I'm loathe to buy a bottle that will be wasted if I don't like it after one mouthful but will always try something new if someone already has it. Loving spiced plum cider at the moment.

I think I might have forgotten to say Hi (so "Hi!"). I saw this banana beer in Johnny Thunder's what's smoking today post and did a double take. I'm very partial to a piece of banana bread, MLW makes a very good one - but in a beer, I'm cautious but game.

That said, without meaning to gross anyone out (well, maybe a bit for humour), I'm kinda off bananas as they anaesthetised my throat with some heinous lidocaine/"banana" horror on Friday prior to an EUS (did get to see my own aorta and pancreas from inside me, kinda cool) - when the memory of that taste fades, I'll see where a Big Tesco Peruse takes me.

Belgian fruit beers actually taste strongly of the fruit they advertise, as the beer is steeped in real fruit. If you like sweet and fruity then IMO they are a step above the currently popular cordial ciders as I call them.

Slightly off subject, I saw one of those plaques that women seem to love the other day that read 'Never look someone in the eye when eating a banana'
