Card Payments at Havana Cigar Shops

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you folks have used your UK debit card to pay for cigars in any of the cigar shops in Havana?

Travelling in December, so just checking before departing.

It has been my experience that debit cards ( for Canadian banks ) do not work in Cuba . At least not last week . Visa card ( for a Canadian bank ) worked just fine ... last week .

Depending on when your going and if your using your debit card take a look at travelex supercard might be worth joining if you have lots of transaction fees.

I took lots of Euros, cheaper tban paying card fees.

UK credit cards are OK but no Amex and MasterCard can be a bit dodgy, as can any card issued by an American based issuer. I took sterling and changed into CUCs at the hotels.

My First Direct debit card went through fine at the Casa in the Hotel National, whilst I had cash with me I'd gone slightly off my list and had spent a bit more than I expected.
