I decided to treat myself to a decent Cognac just before Christmas. I've had a VS before and thought it was ok but but thought I'd pop into the great local independent wine shop near me to get something a little better.

My budget was ?50 but unfortunately they had sold out of the 50 quid stuff. After sampling a few cognacs and taking advice, I went a little bit silly and paid ?106 for this Maxime Trijol XO. It was one of those spur of the moment things I regretted once driving away from the shop! Well my regret was short lived when I sat down in front of the wood burner with a warm cognac in a proper cognac glass. For me this stuff is stunning and it will be a regular in my drinks cabinet from now on, I just wish it wasn't quite so expensive!

        Looking good!

FYI Maxime Trijol also have a VSOP offering, which is also a very good drop (for about a third of the price!)

so... thanks to a mate who only drinks pretty toppy XO I have a taste for really rather good cognac. I find that regular brandy, Armagnac, cognac is too harsh. Now dont laugh this out of court, but Sainsburys Taste the Difference XO at ?20 a bottle is pretty drinkable...

it wont be as deep and complex as the heavy weight you bought, but its exceptionally good value at that price point.

There is less now, that was taken several days ago. I really do love the stuff!

The shop I bought this XO from mentioned how good the Maxime Trijol VSOP is but they were out of stock. I think they were charging ?50 for it though. May take a look online and give it a try.

                  Cognac!

I found myself perusing the spirits aisle in Tesco, and found Remy Martin XO on deep reduction. According to whisky exchange the bottle should have been north of ?80, but I paid south of ?40. I had to ask to check if it was mislabelled, but it was not. 🍷

Wow, I've been hanging over a bottle for some time, I'm new to cognac but having tried a measure at a recent gathering I might as well start as I mean to go on. Trip to Tesco tomorrow then....
