Can you remember your first Cuban cigar ?

Mine is memorable as it was my eighteenth birthday. It was in a restaurant lounge after the meal back in the days when you could smoke in restaurants.

It was a Romeo and Julietta Churchill tubed and cost the princely sum of ?5

A Romeo y Julieta Petit Corona. Twenty years ago, 'borrowed' from my friends fathers humidor, start of a great journey.

I can't actually remember my first cigar, although I'm pretty sure it was in a restaurant after a meal.

I really miss the days when decent restaurants had a humidor and you could have a smoke with a dram afterwards.

Oh yes I remember my first cigar, it was a mannequin liberated from one of the numerous open boxes my father had around the house. The second one was after he court me smoking cigarettes, and he made me smoke a large King Edwards fast and take it down. I went several shades of green and didn't feel to good. His deterrent didn't work as I smoked cigarettes for another 15 years before my now ex-wife persuaded me to stop, even she wasn't totally successful as I picked up cigars again 20+ years on.

My first was 2 wks after my 18th birthday on Christmas day. My mother gave it to me as she liked the smell of a cigar & her father & brother used to smoke a cigar on Christmas Day (rest of the year they smoked Old Holburn rolling tobacco). it would have been a a Henri Winterman or Castella ect. I smoked one occasionally in the RN, but never came across a Cuban until I was I was 35yo & went to Spain for our hols.
The first Havana was a Monte No4 & I guess it must have stood out as significant difference from the King Eddies that we thought were real cigars & previous holiday smokes.
My first box was bought on that holiday in Spain & was a box of R&J Julietas. I thought they could be smoked on fishing trip instead of Cafe Creams. The following holiday I bought a box of Mone No4's & 6 Hoyo No2 & 1's with a handful of Cohiba Esplen's for occasional celebrations & my wife bought my first Humi, a 50 stick unit. And the rest as they say, is history.

Mine was a RyJ Short Churchill - recommended by Lawrence at Sautter. Would have been around my 23rd birthday. Always have a little get together at a nice spot on the river and I fancied trying a cigar. Never looked back since!

I was 18 round my gf's house for Christmas & after lunch her dad let me light one of his. I inhaled a big gulp & nearly coughed up a lung! I don't know what it was but I expect it was a good one. I managed to smoke half.

I was in my early 40s and although I had smoked a pipe on occasions since I was a youth, I had not smoked cigarettes or cigars. I was passing Sautter's in Mayfair and looking at their window display and enjoying the aroma coming out of the shop. Desmond Sautter came outside and we started talking. I mentioned that I sometimes smoked a pipe but had never tried a cigar. He invited me into his store and show me the cigars and talked about them. I decided to try a cigar and he explained how to cut, light and smoke it. I enjoyed my first cigar with him before buying a few more singles to try later in the week. I used to return quite often to sample more cigars, buy more singles and learn more from him and others about the world of cigars.

Mine was a monte 4 in 2014 in Majorca. Probably part of the reason I like them so much, you never forget your first

My first "proper" cigar was a Cohiba bought in Cuba by my friends dad and gifted to his son and his close friends on his sons 16th birthday. I was 15 at the time and knew nothing about cigars although I did always have an attraction to them probably as a result of old mob movies, not sure which it was but it was large so probably an Esplendidos maybe a Sig 6. In any case knowing what I know now it was almost certainly a fake as I believe my friends dad bought them in the street after being approached by a local and asked if he liked fishing before being given the sales pitch. Ignoring that as it was fake then my first cigar was a tubed H Upmann bought from the local off license along with beers for a BBQ, it was a great way to spend the afternoon with good weather, good people, good food, good beer and a good cigar and I haven't looked back since.

Ha! Mine was very similar. I was 23 years old and my first time was a RyJ No 1 (Tubed) after a meal with my girlfriend at a popular Indian restaurant in Glasgow (Creme de la Creme, now demolished) in early 1997. I probably had no idea how to smoke it properly but it didn't stop me having a go.

                              My first Puro...

                              Good question, chico

Now, I can’t quite remember my first puro, but I do remember reading in don TJ’s journals that his first was in the early 1990s when he and his brujo mentor, don Juan were spending some time in the Caribbean with their buen amigo, don Jesus Lara Perez (sound familiar?). Don Jesus offered each a H. Upmann Petit Corona. After that, don Perez introduced them to his own custom rolled puros. And that’s all it took. Ever since then, don Perez has been rolling custom puros for the familia Coro every year.

                              The End.

Names Jay, Ray Jay, and I loves me a custom rolled puro.
