Cheers McDee, sure these cigars would be right up your street, have to see if I can find a spare single for you one day.

No8: 100 & 80yr Havana Cigars! Ref today's thread of aging cigars, here's some pics of the 100yo cigar I mentioned & a couple of better tasting cigars from the 30's & 50's. No1&2 was a Antonio Blanco from 2015 & smoked at the WWI Newfoundland monument, Flanders Fields, at the anniversary of the start of WWI. 3&4 same, smoked at Lille in France, for the anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme. These were cigars that could have been smoked during the war, very moving moment. First cigar bland but tobacco flav, the second better with still a deeper flav profile but both curiosities rather than fine smokes. 5&6 The Por Larranaga Figarado from the 50's was very pleasant & I would love to have had a few more of those, noticeable PL flav profile, in a common format of that era. 7,8,9 &10 50's H.Upmann Perla this was the best of the crop & so good I gave it my first 100point score (only had one since), amazing, the peak of Upmanns & the only tragedy was that it was such a small vitola. The final cigar was from the '30's & didn't look to special but was a rather nice 2014 New Years Eve smoke, another from the '30's.

No9: Spanish haul! So just back online yesterday & catching up with what's been going on for the last 3wks; was good to have a break after Tippex's sale. Just spent 12 days in Portugal, 6 in Lisbon (last there in '85 on HMS Illustrious) & 6 days Porto. Hadn't been to Porto before but met up with Stefan Heym & Aura Martins, two stalwarts of the local Cigar Scene & run the local cigar club at Porto Cruz. Had a great time but the weather was disappointing, with 30oC back home in Antwerp & even 20oC in Scotland, we averaged 15oC, with clouds & showers after the first two days.
Apparently all the shops close on Monday so Stefan suggested going to Spain for the day. Thinking that going East would be a long drive but he meant North, the border being just over an hour away. We stopped halfway for a coffee & I had a sweet RG Panatela 2002 (not PanX). In Vigo, we found numerous old boxes of cigars. I could have bought twice as many but after my recent windfall with Tippex's collection, I restrained myself to 5. I was expecting to buy one box of regionals from Portugal but ended up with this lot:
Bolivar Inmensas x25 2001
Cohiba Exquisitios x25 2001

Cohiba Siglo VI x3 2017

Cohiba Piramide x3 2017
Cuaba Divinos x25 2008
Sancho Panza CG x10 2002

Later in Porto, Stefan took me to a local cigar shop with 2 1/2 boxes of LGC d'Or Medaille No2 from the 1990's. With my wife's patience being pushed to the limit, I just took a complete box.
JLP PP x25 in Collectors tin
Will show more pics & holiday story in the Travel Lounge later.

Very impressive haul Simon!

I must say that I'm quite envious of the LGC No.2's!

Great haul, Simon. The second time in a week that I've seen ref to the Boli Immensas, having never heard of them before. Yet another discontinued stick that I've just read very good things about!

Cheers guys, indeed I really wasn't expecting to find anything exceptional & finding this store, it was like a new Andorra (something I missed out on & is now fished out). It only proves the value of going with a local guide.

One point to note though, Spain has the perfect breeding climate for the weevil, just as Cuban does so check carefully the boxes before purchasing. I wouldn't buy any without opening them first. You can do that two ways, I usually say, 'I'll buy this & open it in front of you, if there's bug holes or dust I'll need to swap them or get my money back' (when that was the only box left). This has always worked for me but my friend just used his finger nail to cut through the seals to open them & we had to reject a few because of bug dust & one box of Inmensas had visible bug holes. He also showed me how to flip the box & check the second level, something I'd never figured out myself (usually just remove top layer, to reveal lower). My haul is currently in the Fridge3/ Freezer3/ Fridge3 treatment, under the wife's care (after persuading her that my whole stock would be at risk if this wasn't done correctly & therefore worthless).

Dale, of course I will put you in touch with my friend & give you the location of these stores by PM, nearer the time. Can't believe you are going to Porto & Vigo, to be frank I'd never heard of Vigo before we went; is it the marine side that sends you there or just my story!

A little addendum Simon Bolivar, Vigo is popular with cruise ships as the stop for the cathedral at Santiago de Compastella. We went there once on a cruise before I started smoking.

Docked at Vigo years back in the navy but TBH we are staying south of Vigo next year and all searches for Cigar stores near us lead us to Vigo...

In Porto due to flying there and celebrating our anniversary before we head north to Spain [emoji633]

I will of course PM you nearing the time, cheers mate
