  • Moistening the cap

I've done a search and found conflicting advice, who moistens the cap before cutting?

  • #2
do you mean moisten with a drink? or with your saliva (sorry if you're eating)
I will use saliva if the cap is a little as I found it stops the wrapper unwrapping or cracking on a dryer cigar

Yes, saliva to ensure a cleaner cut.

I do, especially if I punch.

I think it restores a wee bit of elasticity to the wrapper and helps prevent it from tearing or cracking. OMG shocked

When punching, always licky licky before sticky sticky. In fact licky licky is always a good way to start.

I'll always moisten the cap if I'm using a punch and I tend to punch my cigars.

I've always been a licker and never liked to rely of brute force alone to break through. I've found I've been paid back with better prepared holes. [emoji57]

In my relatively short time smoking cigars i've cracked two cigars by not licking it before punching it!

IMO it's better to lick than be sorry, especially if your punch isn't too sharp.

Usually I never moisten the cap and I haven't had any issues so far. The only issue I had was a friend of mine licking his cigar before using my cutter.
