  • What RH do you favour?

Having just gone from 72% in the early days when I thought wetter was better (calm down) to 69% and recently to a conservative 65%, I wondered what your preferred RH is and why?

I realise that much of this is personal preference, but I am definitely finding that my sticks are smoking better at 65% than they did at 69% and most certainly better than at 72%. I am experiencing better burns and haven't had any go out on me at all.

A bit dull for a Saturday evening perhaps, but I'm curious!

By George! I think 'es got it!

Sounds like you have a good handle on humidity level. Sixty-five is what don TJ told me to maintain on his massive unit while in my charge. But if it creeps up to 67/68, no worries, but no higher.

FYI - lower humidity is best for aging.

Ii prefer 65...I think they burn better at this humidity...I found 62 just too dry for me. And 69 to moist for.my liking

Yup 65 is what i prefer too - too many burn issues at 69 that effected flavour and overall smoking pleasure - changed to 65 and not looked back since!

65 too, used to be in the 70% with my first humidor but found the burn better with 65 like most

Im at 69 with the bovedas but i have gone lower to no discernable difference as far as i could tell. Fortunately we like the house as cool as possible so it never gets above 70F either which i understand is a no no.

Cubans; I smoke everything at 61rh 70F. I've experimented with changes in the temperature and humidity over the years and this is my sweet spot.

Non-Cubans I find I prefer at 67rh and 70F again based on trial and error.

If only this thread had started a day before - yesterday I bulk ordered replacement 69 RH Bovedas! Still, I've not had any problems with that level really.

If they're for a wooden humidor then you were right as they will absorb some of it

Thanks. Some of them are, but it looks like I may have to re-think the Lock 'n' Lock boxes.

When I got my humidor ... humidifier was "preset" at 62% ...
                          never changed it .

my "open boxes" cooler has 65% beads ... never changed them .

                          works for me .

65 in the storage humidor for boxes, 62 in the singles humidor for smoking from. Of course though it should be said that temperature plays a big role. Two people storing at 65rh but with different temperature can have big differences in the water content in their cigars. For me 'wetter' cigars burn poorly and taste harsh.

65% for me, however i was smoking my cigars out of a 62% Xikar travel humidor on holiday and they were great, also not dry like some have mentioned. I was very surprised as mostly all of these cigars were smoked straight out of the PVC box, with no dry boxing, resting etc

The temperatures in Cyprus at August time are well over 70F also, so this really leaves me to believe that RH doesn't have to much an impact on aging as temperature does.

Im gonna consider doing some experimentation soon
