  • Favourite Beers?

Something that I've really learned to appreciate is a good beer. Simple question, what are your favourites and why?

Mine, in no particular order (any could be my favourite depending on what I fancy)

Samuel Adams - love it's malty quality
Brewdog Punk IPA - the tropical flavours are very unique and refreshing
Abbot Ale - smooth and drinkable
Hobgoblin Gold - haven't had this for a while but it was all I drank 18 months ago
    Ho?gaarden - fruity flavours abound

      Hobgoblin
      Spitfire
      Bishops Finger
      Old Speckled Hen
      Pilsner Urquell
      Weihenstephan
      Leffe Blonde

I could go on. I prefer the classics to some of the craft beer efforts you get these days.

My fav Belgian beer is Palm, apparently it used to be a fav of post WWI Tommy's. I think this is probably because it has the same colour as a British bitter, taste similar but a wee bit stronger. Unfortunately my local caf? doesn't sell it so I often drink Stella there, as it doesn't overpower any cigar & it's actually cheaper than the coffee! If I am smoking something special or stronger, I'll go for the beer of the month, which will be a more unusual Belgian beer but rather expensive & E3.50 for half a glass!

Other beers I can highly recommend are Leffe Blonde & Bruin, Corsendonk Blonde & Bruin & of coursed Duvel but at 8% one is usually enough, two in the afternoon has a strong soporific effect on me.

Palm is a good call Simon

Have to say the fruit beers like fruli and kriek make a nice change once in a while

What I really love is a good old pint of flat warm British like London pride mmm neck it at five pm and sip the next one

                  1. Guinness
                  2. Doom Bar

I don't really have a need for anything else but will deviate if these are not options.

For a lager-beer I always go back to a nice chilled Keo - a Cypriot brew.

I must admit I've gone off the warm ale style - been replaced with full bodied red wine.

And I like a pale ale with a bit of bite - BD Punk is a good example.

When I'm feeling really fruity - a Vedette with a slice or two!!

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

Indeed SJ, I enjoy drinking British beers on my infrequent visits to England & as a Londoner, I enjoy a drop of London Pride too.

It's a great beer London Pride. I prefer it cold out of the bottle though!

Nothing beats an ice cold Primus after a day's work (in Kinshasa). Found it once in our local sainsburys a few years ago and it brought back many happy memories!

My favourite beer now is Hogs Back TEA (traditional English ale) and I'm fortunate that the brewery is just up the road.

Am I the only craft beer nut here then?

I drink mainly double IPAs and Imperial stouts so usually try to stick to only 2 or 3 on a weekend given the high abv.

Favourites brewery for DIPA is Cloudwater and I love pretty much any imperial stout but Omnipollo make my all time favourites.
