Yo! Off to the Dom Rep in a few months. I've had a few Dom cigars over the years but can't remember much about any of them and need some advice as to what to try (and bring back).

I'm not into the sucker-punch flavours, having been brought up on Cubans, and I'm also finding it hard to take the nicotine these days without a bad hangover!

    Any advice well received!

Unless you're lucky enough to visit a factory you'll find that most shops are dearer than you can pick up on one of your trips to the USA.

Hangover's with Nicotine? Cubans have less noticeable Nicotine than NC's, age your smokes more & the Cuban should be headache free Deano. Can't help with good Dom cigars, just avoid LaAuroa, which I did try & ended up ditching.

Not sure about the prices but the Davidoff Yamasa Petit Churchill is a very smooth smoke. AF Anejo are also very good and flavoursome and will age well. I?ve got some 46?s which don?t pack as much of a nicotine kick as the bigger RG?s. Depending on when exactly you go may dictate whether they have any there - usually released around Father?s Day and Christmas with the illusive ?shark? at Xmas only.

If you can get to either of the factories like PeeJay suggests, maybe you?ll get a good deal?

            It’s alive!!

Gotta’ disagree a wee bit on the LaAuroa, mi hombre.

If you can find the Preferidos (perfectos), give ‘em a go. They come in multiple wrappers, so pick the one you prefer and spark it up. Ol’ don TJ, god bless his soul, preferred the tubos - best looking tubos around, IMO.

June - Punta Cana area, staying at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro - hoping to explore a factory or two too.

Simon - yep my hangovers from nicotine suddenly started a couple of years back and now I really struggle. I especially can't drink alcohol with them anymore. It's pretty awful.

Tomm - thanks for the tips!

I should also probably move this thread to Cigar Travel....

Your hotel used to have its own roller, I don't know if it still does

I stayed at Dreams in 2007 and 2009. We loved it there. The pool was amazing.
