  • Canada line up

I will be flying out to Canada for 15 days on Friday. Don't had much free time in the last few days so no time to smoke a cigar but I managed to pull out some smokes for my vacation. I will be travelling with my brother who will bring roughly the same amount of cigars.

I didn't have the courage to break into untouched boxes and didn't pull anything fancy since I don't really know how much Canadian customs will charge me for bringing those sticks into the country.

    'Nothing fancy' [emoji23]

Stellar line-up, Mike. And don't worry aboot customs. I believe you can bring in 50 sticks as your personal duty free limit:

    Have a great trip!

Nice selection - I hope you get the opportunity to smoke a good proportion of them.

          Thank you Marc.

I don't really get what they try to explain on the government website.

          It says:

As a visitor or a temporary resident, you may bring into Canada, free of duty and taxes, all of the following amounts of tobacco products, as long as these items are in your possession when you arrive in Canada

          Then:

Stamped Tobacco Products – Personal exemption amounts

If you wish to import cigarettes, manufactured tobacco and tobacco sticks duty free as part of your personal exemption, the packages must be stamped "duty paid Canada droit acquitt?". You will find tobacco products sold at duty-free stores marked this way.

          And then;

Unstamped Tobacco Products – Special duties rate

A special duty rate applies to cigarettes, manufactured tobacco and tobacco sticks that are not stamped "duty paid Canada droit acquitt?".
For example, if you claim a carton of 200 cigarettes as part of your personal exemption and it is not stamped "duty paid Canada droit acquitt?", you will be assessed at a special duty rate.

          I just don't get it.

The plan is to have two to three sticks per day.

I found it a bit confusing too. Then I saw this:

Unstamped Tobacco Products ? Import limits

In addition to your personal exemption amounts, there are limits on the quantity of tobacco products that may be imported if it is not packaged and not stamped "duty paid Canada droit acquitt?". The limit is currently five units of tobacco products. One unit of tobacco products consists of one of the following:

              ProductAmount
              Cigarettes 200
              Cigars 50 cigars
Tobacco 200 grams (7 ounces) of manufactured tobacco
              Tobacco sticks 200

For short visits, these quantities may be limited to amounts that are appropriate in respect of the nature, purpose, and duration of the visit.

              ---------

I think this covers travellers like you who are bringing a selection of personal smokes in, but then you might get a mean-spirited customs officer who ruins your trip [emoji51]

Yeah, I didn't make much sense of the information either. They are contradicting themselves a little.

Well, I expect the worst. If we don't have to pay for bringing cigars into Canada I'll consider it a bonus.

Now that is a monstrously beautiful lineup, plenty of hours of smoking joy right there, and in good company too! I look for to pouring over your future smoking posts
Only the impossible is worth the effort.

Thank you Greg. I hope to have a little WiFi from time to time. Let's hope that they are as addicted to the internet as people in SE Asia where you can find a wifi connection everywhere.

Don't worry Mike, the Canadians even have colour tv, after all half of Netflix's shows are filmed there!

I wouldn't even have thought to look it up and just stuffed them in the middle of my hold baggage like I always do

Yeah, but I will be at various RV camping sites in the middle of nowhere.
