Just checked and both Klarsteins devices use a refrigerant gas as a coolant - I.e you will have compressor, (coolant), condenser ( gets rid of excess heat), expansion valve ( turns gas to liquid) and evaporator (cools your cigars) - the point still stands though the cabinet volume does not connect to the outside world unless the door is opened.

one question to Tom - when you first got your Klarstein, was it delivered the right way up, or was it ever tilted past 45 degrees from upright, and did you allow the unit to rest for some time before plugging it in and switching it on? These can all have an sub optimal effect on the operating conditions of the refrigerant.

Mine was actually the 127L (go big or go home right?!) but I?m expecting the same principle.

I did yes for about a week before firing it up. Some sort of error code kept flashing which was solved by adding water to the internal resovoir however I was the fighting the 70 RH which is why I ended up draining it and not turning it on again. May fire it up again in the future but for now leaving it be as it?s serving a purpose currently!

If I could adjust the humidity setting it?d be perfect but it seems programmed to 70 whether I like it or not!

          Wait, yours does humidity too?

Mine only does temperature, thus the need for the Cigar Oasis. Unless I have unknowingly bough one which does do humidity and im in midst of a bloody humidity battle to get it down to 62%!

I wish it didn?t but unfortunately, it does and won?t let me cool without a full reservoir. I?m not nerdy enough to understand how to change that so it only does cooling!

Does it kick in quite a lot at 18c? I found that mine was kicking in every 30 mins to get 19c

I take it yours is a fully stocked humidor?

Yes it does kick in a lot to start with, but I’ve noticed it settles down after a few weeks of use. Yes it’s fully stocked

I decided to do a few things which thought might help with getting to the 62% RH dream.

I opened the humidor for an hour to let the RH drop from the 71% it had been sat at all day. I then disconnected the cigar oasis entirely. I thought the unit might be having some issues as I noticed that the humidity jumped about a bunch 3-5% RH jumping. I then placed it the CO in a bag with a 75% Boveda Calibration pack so that I could mess with it.

After the hour, I closed the humidor up and it had dropped nicely to 67%. I then moved all of the cigars over which brought the RH down to 64%. It has now been sat at 64% since then.

A few hours after that I checked on the CO, it was sat at 77% so I calibrated it properly rather then calibrating from the bottom of the humidor... After this I turned the CO turn on setting right down. It will only come on if the humidor goes below 60%. Which should work as a RH top up.

I installed the CO and it came on as the humidors RH dropped. It sat at 59% for a minute with the fan blaring before equalising at 62% with the fan turning off when it went over the 60%.

It has now been an hour and the fan hasnt been on once. The RH at the top is 64%, middle is 64% and the CO at the bottom is saying 63.7%!

Happy day! Now to wait eagerly by the door until the next cigar delivery!

                          .--
I think I may finally have this CAD under control...
