  • Almost finished... home office/studio

Having made the conscious decision to work from home more going forward, I've quite enjoyed converting our under-used conservatory into a small home office/studio. Already feel much more productive in this space and starting to book in some private coaching as well... Will post more as it nears completion. Very awkward shape to photograph and actually looks much smaller than in real life but you get the idea! Nice to be straight into the garden for a lunchtime/evening cigar too...

Thanks Banos! I won't be smoking in there (unfortunately) as it will be used for vocal training etc... the ashtray is just for a splash of colour (it lives outside on nice sunny days)

Thanks @TJCoro! I work as an artistic consultant but do a lot of voice/acting coaching and theatre producing. Getting a little tired of the hard slog around the country so will be working from home at least two days a week.

Unusual backdrop outside the window in the first picture.

Haha, yes, it's the retaining wall of our garden. Before the houses were built here (around 12 years ago) this area was just open fields. It's almost like a dugout. It's a fair distance away from the window thankfully (we have a 6 seater table and chairs on the patio there). I used to really dislike it, but have actually grown to appreciate it for it's rustic appearance! The wall runs the whole length of the houses here.

Looks like somewhere you can really work - I've been putting-off a garage conversion for the same use, but I really must get round to it.

It's a very quiet area and here at the back there's barely any audible noise (bar birds and cows; no jokes please!) Lots of natural light coming in so it's working nicely so far. Was going to get the garage done myself Grumpy, but this barely cost anything.

Looks really good. The shield in front of the mic looks posh, in my recording days that was usually a pair of tights stretched over a wire coathanger.

I remember those days too! The first studio I recorded in had egg boxes on the walls.

Just waiting on the SE portable vocal booth to attach to the stand and it will be ready to use. I tend not to do a lot of mic technique, but am going to trial recording student's lessons and upload to the cloud to track progress.

Cheers bud. Just waiting on some new blinds and a couple of other bits of tech now.
