  • Favourite Third?

As we divide our sticks into thirds, which is your favourite?

For me, I enjoy the first third the most. I like the anticipation of lighting and not knowing quite what will unfold, so the opening is usually a nice surprise. I sometimes find the final third a little too intense in terms of flavours, truth be told (although greatly enjoyed the final third of the Epi De Luxe tonight).

For me, the second third is my favourite. I like the transition from the first to the second third and personally find the second third more often than not is where all of the flavours really come alive.

The first third is the best half!

Indeed! There?s no beating the lip-smacking anticipation and preperation for the enjoyment that?s about to occur as you spark up one of your finest. Quite the opposite for the final third as the puro pleasure is about to pass. (Sad)

      That?s what I think, anywayz...

I like it that they make cigars in thirds. It's quite convenient.

Indeed as the sadness of the final third, should the puros live up to that expectation, wanes there's renewed anticipation for the next first third!

The middle third is for cruising. Thinking. Relaxing.

I wonder what the world would be like if they made them in quarters or halves. I'm sure it would not be the same.........

Here's to the next third, whichever it may be!

          Now that’s just CRAZY TALK!

But now that I think about it, I suppose if time was not an issue, a puro divided into quarters would be quite exciting.

          Think about it...

First and second are on a par for me, don’t find the final third that enjoyable.

For me it's all about the finish, if it slowly builds to a lip burning crescendo and you can taste it hours later it was a great stick.

The second third all the way for me, thats where the true flavour profile of any cigar occurs in my opinion. Some cigars in the final third can become exceptionally smooth and vanillary which can be great with that punch, find the serie D no4 to do this a lot its great.

                  Favourite Third?

Based on the cigar I smoked most recently it?s the last bit because it just got better & better. Unfortunately that is not always the case.

                    The Purge!

                    IMPORTANT NOTICE

I assume everyone around these part is purging at each third (or quarter, if that?s your thing). If not, take a look at this...

This. I never did when I was a complete noob but have for a long time. Definitely makes a difference.

I enjoy the 1st third for the reasons noted above & I always start with a coffee to get the most of the milder flav, that you get at the start. By the 2nd third I am usually drinking a Belgian beer & this will be where the cigar usually peaks for me but on exceptional & usually vintage cigars, the smoke will stay great down to finger burning stage, otherwise I usually just move the band down a cm or so & put it down when it reaches that stage.

I didn't think I'd be contributing to this post but the double corona I smoked last weekend demonstrated to me that I like the middle third the best in most cases. I have had some cigars that were so good however that I smoked them down to the nub using a pin to save my fingers.

For me it depends on the cigar.
Some have great taste in the first third, others come good in the second.
Only a few are great in the last third.

The first 5 minutes can be very different to the rest of the stick. Tend to enjoy 2 nd third the most I think once it has settled down. But every cigar is different so I don't think it is a clear cut answer.
