  • Hookmakers tales from the Humidor

As I don't want to impose on others humidors - may they be big, small, single or multiple, I thought I'd start my own exhibitionistic thread. Comments and related pics are welcome any time

      Hookmakers tales from the Humidor

There seems to be trend in storytelling not to begin at the beginning and thereby save some childhood or past memories until later thereby adding to the suspense and possibilities of the story. Good idea (although I'm not sure I am fully up to speed on that concept).
No cigars without humidors. So lets start with a humidor addition, - well 2 humidors to be precise. Got these from a fellow who's getting so many cigars from a friend who works in a cigar store in Copenhagen whenever they meet, so he no longer needs storage. Fair enough, we probably all wish we could be in that boat, but I'd be a scoundrel if I couldn't relieve him of those two cabinets. One is still in the garage waiting for a humidification unit.

Add to the story what I really wanted to exhibit was of course todays mail call. Nice little additions to everyday smoking. Funny thing is: These all came in three different parcels delivered to my garage courtesy of Royal Mail and Her Majesty's Customs Services. All nice and tidy - no questions asked and no nagging about customs, VAT etc. Great. BUT: I didn't expect these for another week. What I was expecting though, was a totally different box of 25, but it seems that one got interned and in stead I got a service letter asking me please to process payment of duties and taxes to the royal sum of 2.20 GBP + a handling fee of 18 GBP![emoji41] - Well, I'd be stupid if I didn't keep quiet and pay up, wouldn't I?[emoji41]

I appreciate a good yarn. That attachment is clearly a red herring! Nice start though.

A lot has happened to my humble collection since last and I’ll get back that in due time.
But today I have a story to tell that I cannot withhold:
My nose for a stash never fails, and sometimes luck strikes.
When I arrived on holiday in Italy 4 days ago my only worry was La Escepcion. I bought one in Switzerland in May, and as the strongest Cuban it is supposed to be, and as wonderful a smoke it was, I dreamed of getting my hands on a case or two. I knew it would be difficult but I also knew I was so far out that there’d be some waiting for me.
Alas and then when you finally arrive in Italy’s backcountry and walk into two shops with humidors and find nothing of hope you are mentally already at a setback. Shocking to say the least. Not a Don Jos? in sight and none to be had. No matter how much you pleaded.

So you spend days under the sun with good food and drink and the disappointment slowly dissipates.

Until one day - today- you decide to follow your woman on some shopping at a large outlet. Upon arrival suddenly the nose smells something familiar nearby. A tabaccheria. Well you might as well have a look because who knows. AND VOIL? there they are in all their might and glory. Don Jos?, Casanovas and even a couple of boxes of my favourite - the Topes.

O Goddess of luck I kiss your feet for this beautiful find. A price I will savour for years to come.

Poetic? - hell, I cried! So did my wife when she saw the CC slip - she thought cigars came cheap

Fantastic looking cigars and a great tale.
                        Enjoy smoking them in time.
