Cigar etiquette

So I'm having lunch with the wife today at a local cafe in the North London burbs. Guy, youngish, 30's?, casually walks past smoking what could have been a Libertador! I definitely saw the LCDH band and I think it was a Bolivar band.

Should I have rushed out and made his acquaintance!? There are so few of us around!

I know it's not the done English thing to rush strangers!

Or is there an equivalent of the bikers nod?

A secret handshake?

IDK...

What do/would you do?

I guess at least we would notice as it is such a rare species.

I have spoke to quite a few folk that cross my path in a cosa ...it tends to be in cigar places so conversation is sparked up

If it was a non cigar area and the person was near I would engage ... don?t that I would run down the street after them lol

I usually attract attention as my sister and the other half?s sister enjoy a puro too

I usually speak to anyone smoking a cigar, we are a dwindling band & usually happy to converse with like minded brothers. In Portugal I wore our UKCF label badge but it didn't attract any enquires.

i was sat outside a bar in Lithuania recently having a smoke and i heard a guy ask his mate 'who's smoking a cigar' i didn't react but he found me. he was from London and we sat for about 40 mins while i finished my smoke and we had a beer and a chat about the hobby.

I have had a few occasions when people have come up to me after I had a cigar to tell me how good it smelt or to tell me a little storey about how they once had a cigar. Not however from those that are sitting in a smoking area, then give you the evil eye - and then move tables

If they're non-smokers sitting at a table with an ashtray they can just get stuffed. We'd never light up if there wasn't one.

I've only had one guy comment as he was walking his dog past us in the park one afternoon as we were sat on a bench I was smoking an open master at the time. He just said that smells great as he walked past. I just replied glad you like it!

They generally have the idea you gota be fillthy rich or someone who's well connected.

argh - the dark thoughts of 'did I just spend that'! but I look at what my wife spends on hairdressing (and is mighty frugal) and pound for pound it still knocks CAD into a cocked hat! but then as a massive slap-head, I have shaved my melon for the last decade or more so haven't spent a bean on hair cuts either!

Happier - the rub indeed my friend!! BOTL's are able to find a moment and be lost in a simple pleasure - something increasingly difficult to achieve in this age.

Indeed, agree with your thoughts entirely. I also shave my our hair these days & have done since my barber of 20yrs put his charges up to E19 to trim what little I have left & talk fishing. Now I go to the cafe with a smoke & talk fishing there instead. Wife's last hairdressing bill in Belgium was E170! Had a bargain in Porto on hols & she & our daughter shared a E65 bill.

Of course this doesn't match my spending but if you add their spending on shoes & handbags Oh, & a brand new Nissan Juke a few years ago (my old car is worthless than a E1K) then we more or less equal out.

I'm lucky, I sleep with my hairdresser! Who I hasten to add is keeping quiet about cigars as she's just signed up for two grand's worth of facial treatments shocked.jpeg
