• Nespresso - any good?

Have been considering picking up a Nespresso as an alternative to the barista style coffee machines. Does anyone have one? Are they any good? The variety of 'pods available looks impressive.

I've had them for many years and love them, the coffee is good with a good crema layer. If you want a bigger cup of coffee though you can get a bean to cup filter coffee maker for the same money. I use both. If you go for a Nespresso try Starbucks capsules (Starbucks and Tesco), I prefer the coffee.

It depends what you're after. IMO they make an alright cup of coffee but nowhere near a good espresso machine, grinder and some decent beans.

The latter however has a learning curve, more work and a greater outlay of cash at the start.

I've used Nespresso when they were in my hotel room but I usually take a hario grinder and a small cafetiere or my aeropress with me everywhere I go and find this makes superior coffee and is cheaper than buying the pods.

I used to use one, I found the coffee good actually, I would only get one if you will recycle the pods.

My wife wanted a Nespresso machine. I've tried a good few. Some taste alright. But not nice enough to agree to buy one. Even a cheaper one.

My preference is a fresh ground strong oily filter. Or a Greek coffee. Which is cooked.

So that's your barbecue and your coffee I'd like to try!

Thanks, chaps. I like the seeming convenience of them as opposed to what I have at the moment, which isn't great when time is short. I've managed to find one for around ?70 with a starter set of pods so think I'll go for that one and experiment with the pods mentioned by PeeJay

I was just going to say get a basic manual one. We have a smart one with bluetooth and its a pointless waste of money. The coffee tastes exactly the same but it was free so I'm not bitter (and neither is the coffee). I have a cheap basic one at work and it works fine after about five years. If you live in hard water area its worth using bottled water to save it from scaling up.

they are great for a decent hassle free cup. I do prefer my espresso maker, its just better and more versatile. I generally only drink black or espresso.

They are fantastic. I tend to drink less coffee while out of the house now as I prefer it to the likes of Costa etc. Other coffee just seems disappointing now.

Those that enjoy it can pick up a machine on the Nespresso website for a ?1 and a 12 month subscription of credit to be used on cartridges. I have been doing this for two years and have just signed up for the third.

They all do but there is a new range with different pods.
