This is how I started, with a twenty quid humidor from Amazon. It didn't last long!

My research indicates lock and lock with boveda packs and a cedar stick is a better option for beginners....humidors are advanced beasts...

Absolutely but I started before joining and enjoying the benefits of our knowledge. I also bought five humidors before my first Lock'n'lock because I wasn't buying boxes and humidors can be so desirable.

What's with the cedar stick? Surely its just soaking up moisture

I've come to the conclusion 1 per month might not be feasible...so one a week is a good goal. Weekend chill out!

It's a small one. I seasoned it with anti-mould humidification solution rather than distilled water before putting it in. It's a special grade Belize cedarwood. I'd rather the cigars absorbed the smell of cedarwood than the smell of plastic from lock and lock. it smells great! Don't think it would have much impact on moisture when properly seasoned?

                    Right you are, chico!

Not only does spanish cedar smell great when you open the box to have a peek, it adds a wee bit of cedar aroma to your sticks. And as a bonus, it helps manage the moisture, or humidity, in your box.

                    Plastic? Not so much.
