I?ll preface my post with the disclaimer: I?m brand new to the forum.

Had a trawl through the first dozen pages and couldn?t find anything specifically relating to the topic. ( also made a search and could only find archived posts ..... is it possible to add to archived topics ? )

My other passion in life, besides cigars and my dearly beloved is clay target shooting. Treasure my shotgun collection and participating in competitive shoots.

Anyone else with the same ?affliction? ?

Welcome, I have dipped in and out of shooting through my life.

The only stuff I currently keep though are Airguns of a non FAC nature. I was looking at my old cabinet the other day though and thinking it was perhaps time to get a shotgun certificate and put a couple of nice pieces in there, with an eye to finding a local clay shoot to attend.

I havent really looked at the bread and butter of it yet, what are the prices like these days for say a mornings shooting?

Yes. Although I can?t profess to having a collection or being a particularly great shot I?ve been brought up around guns (agriculture).

There aren?t many ?like-minded? souls where I live (Surrey) and have only come across pompous ?holes of arses? who shoot because it?s a status thing, apparently. Not for me.

Have a very good clay shoot (driven game rather than traps) locally which is a hidden gem really that I take friends who haven?t had a go before for a morning/afternoon of fun. Unfortunately not a 12 month a year thing because they close for the game shooting season.

It?s a shame I can?t do it more really and more of a shame it?s not practical for me to have a firearms licence (as opposed to a shotgun certificate) as I?ve nowhere to really use a rifle ?down south?. If I lived up in North Yorkshire where the wider family is from, it?d be a different story!

Serves me right for flying the nest to work in the Big Smoke!

The local one I shoot at, 50 clays is ?20 from memory, possibly a bit cheaper but that?s very a very relaxed (but safe) place unlike somewhere like Bisley where if you want to fire a clay to see what the stand actually is, that takes one from your allocated clays. If there?s 2/3 of you, 50 clays at a relaxed pace will see you through the morning.

I've got a FAC with a couple of rifles. Haven't been shooting as much as I'd like recently though.
I've also got a SGC but haven't got anything in my cabinet yet, it's been a few years since I did some shooting with the brother in law.
There's a local clay setup I keep meaning to get to but my weekends seem to disappear in a puff of smoke with nothing on my to-do list done ha ha.

Yes. Both clay and game though sadly not nearly as much as I used to or would like.
            Welcome here btw

Air rifle only. Have the space but not whilst I have young kids about.

There are a good number of guns on the forum. There are some threads around what ppl smoke when out shooting!

I am a clay shooter turned game. No FAC, just a SGC. Used to shoot x3 a week before kids! Now shoot a dozen days a season.

Midlands based so know the clay clubs and CPSA registers shoots quite well although I generally only shoot a couple of clay days to sharpen up before we hit the pheasants... well to make sure we hit the pheasants cleanly!!!

Have you come across the Mainstone Hill shooting ground through Pirbright camp? Friendly, good shooting and good value.

No I?ve not actually, I heard there was a shoot in that area (MOD land usually does) but hadn?t investigated further). Is it year round? We should get something sorted out, perhaps a smoke afterwards!

Each to their own but not sure I agree with you on this one, maybe keep your eyes peeled and attend some stuff without this predisposition and you may be pleasently suprised.

Predisposition is not unfounded. I just haven?t found many of those that don?t fit that mould yet.

I'd be up for that if we could get something arranged..

This is their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mains...60321820703970

I haven't been for a while, but, as a beginner, I went for lessons there with Chip of Game Bird Shooting ( www.gamebirdshooting.com ) who are really friendly and run open shoots at various locations (clay and birds). There's a also a place near Leatherhead where people just turn up with their guns on a Sunday morning; I've only been once but that was well attended and was very much a just 'get on and do your own thing' set-up.

I'd be up for a shoot and a cigar - good idea.

Thanks for the info on Pirbright, looks good! The one near leatherhead is the one in the middle of a field right? If so, it?s the sister shoot to the one I go to in Willinghurst, very much turn up and crack on.
